The sun comes up on another day during the pandemic.
It's peaceful and calm and the gang is all here, if only in spirit
(that's Smooch's resting place under the rocks in the background).
Look closely and you'll see Alex way back there at the gate.
We're getting a bit desperate for rain, but the yucca is in bloom...
...and the yard is looking pretty good.
This is the first visitor we've had in months.
He was on his way to steal swallow eggs from a nest
but met the snake pole instead and was relocated far, far away.
Alex and I ran into this guy yesterday on our morning walk.
Aren't you glad I started blogging again?
I'll end this on a better note.
My bedroom has inadvertently turned into the Rug Room.
A girl can never have too many Navajo rugs, and I recently acquired my third.
The Navajo nation is being hit extraordinarily hard by the coronavirus.
In looking for ways to help, I came across a non-profit organization called
There are many ways to donate to their efforts, but I went straight to the rug catalog.
100% of the proceeds from a rug purchase go directly to the weaver.
I could think of no better way to use my stimulus check.
Wow. I have always admired your bravery in the face of snakes. I took the easy, and obvious, way to use my stimulus check: all of it was donated, mostly to food banks. While of course I don't regret that - nor expect any praise, either, as I'm among the fortunate - I love your support of the Navajo Nation, to say nothing of your new rug. Carol (a reader in Philadelphia)
ReplyDeleteIndeed....we need some peace on earth. So good to see everyone resting well. Love that you make your bed....I believe making my bed starts the day off right. There is a commencement speech by a Navy Admiral about making your bed that I love...I agree starting the day doing a small task well is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAgain...so good to see the 7MSN gang in all the glorious desert colors. Lisa G in TN.
Happy to see the boys hanging out. No fly masks in sight. JCC doing his job. Alex resting with the rugs for company. Love the new rug. Great way to spend stimulus money. Pine Ridge has a pretty large number of cases now too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are used to the reptiles. They still startle me. Small price to pay to get the rest of the pictures. Peaceful and a balm for the soul.
Thanks for the wonderful photos - made my day today! Glad you’re staying safe and healthy and I’m going now to the link. Love the rugs!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see George and Alan and JCC (it had been so long since we'd seen him I was fearing the worst). Love the rugs! Thanks for the link, I sent them some money and may buy a rug. I had donated for PPE for Navajo Nation though the hilarious Room Rater site, they are doing a fabulous job fundraising for PPE for native Nations. Really appreciate your posts for their beauty and sense of normality in this dispiriting world. /Gretchen
ReplyDeleteRoom Rater is my current favorite account on Twitter!
DeleteGoing to look it up!
DeleteBeautiful photos! I didn’t know you had Smooch there...lovely spot watching over everyone.
ReplyDeleteI still wonder if Mr.Snake finished his meal, or choked to death. The rugs add so much warmth to your room, very cozy.
Ethel
I texted you a short video on our way back - I guess it didn't go through. He dragged the rat into the bushes and was rattling his tail off as we walked by.
DeleteLove the pictures of the boys and Johnny, Alex from afar. You get some lovely skies at your home.
ReplyDeleteYes I am glad you blogged this week :) and now I have a new site to peruse. I have some cross stitch patterns for Navaho rugs. I need to go find my Teec Nos Poc and get to stitching and try to figure out if I have a spot for a Navaho rug. I have always admired Tree of Life style rugs. Do you know the 'name' of the little rug to the left of your doorway?
Snakes are fine.
The type of snake I find most often in my yard is the little brown worm snake. Very small, eats slugs! My kind of snake. I have not seen a green snake in years. Black snakes are usually out in the country, but I did spot one in the yard a few years ago. It fled before I could capture and relocate. The pit vipers are hopefully NOT in my yard.
Perhaps you can get Alex to assist in a rain dance?
Post a picture even if you don't feel like typing a full post.
Good to hear from you!

That rug is a Teec Nos Pos - it's my favorite.
DeleteI loved the peaceful images and the rug photos but man I can't get the snake eating breakfast out of my mind! Betsy
ReplyDeleteGood to see the gang and the sky at your house. Thanks for posting and take care.
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures of the rugs and view from the windows. The skies are beautiful. I always feel good when I see my horses resting....it means they are comfortable enough in their environment to lay down. Peace on earth.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your post today. I am trying to figure out where I can use a rug!
I love the varied colors of the sky in those 3 yucca photos ... beautiful! I can never capture the true pink color like that ... I have nothing that can do that except my own eye!
ReplyDeleteSo good to have you back and so good to see all the critters ... especially JCC ... had kind of forgotten about him!
Thank you so much for continuing your blog. It has made my day for years and now more than ever, it's a day brightener (except for the snake photos, of course). A big fan from Albuquerque
ReplyDeleteBorrowed final pic of new rug framed by New Mexico enchantment out the windows. Using as desktop background. Peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI am very glad you are blogging. I always feel at peace when reading your blog. Or, I am laughing when there is your great humor. Thank you...
ReplyDeleteI bought a rug! A gorgeous colorful Tree of Life rug - so excited! Tell me how you hung yours -- is that a wood clip at the top? Did you make it? Thanks again for posting that link! Hope all of you are well. /Gretchen
ReplyDeleteWhoohoo! That's very cool. I have rug hangers for my two smaller ones; bought the last one on Etsy from a shop called ArtInAPinch - for some reason, I can't link to it here. I took some close-up photos so I might try to make one next time, although now I see that this shop has free shipping which makes the price ever so much more reasonable. If you email me at the7msn at gmail dot com, I'd be happy to send the photos to you.
DeleteI’m late to this post, but thank you for the beautiful, peaceful photos. They are a balm to me. And thanks so much, too, for the “adopt an elder” info. The rugs are beautiful and important.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm even later to this post. I need to start checking more often!!!
ReplyDeleteCue Peer Gynt "morning" music with an abrupt record scratch with the snake photos. HA!
Thanks for the peaceful interlude this morning. We all need it
JaneK
Thanks for the info about the Navajo, donation given. These are hard times and a gift given is one received by the giver, too. Take care.

I love to work the daily Jumble in newspaper. Today's puzzle features three donkeys loudly celebrating the 4th. I figure out the scrambled words, but the three words in the puzzle solution elude me. I want one of them to be Bray because the letters are there. Most likely not part of the answer, but should be. Happy 4th out there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about Adopt A Native Elder! We've just purchased a rug and plan to adopt an elder when they open that process up again
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you! The rugs are beautiful and it is so nice to see your critters again. KarenTX
ReplyDeleteStunning photos! Thank you so much for the information about Adopt A Native Elder. Good seeing you all again.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are OK ... it's been over a month since last you wrote. I think we all get a bit concerned when you go quiet for too long!
ReplyDeleteMy voice is hoarse from screaming into the void, otherwise all's well. Thanks for checking!
DeleteThanks for letting us know, Linda. Take care and let us know if screaming actually helps the situation! LOL Please ... don't scare the animals!
DeleteI haven't been on Blogger for ages, but found it refreshing to see your post, and to see all is well with you. This damned virus is hitting certain populations in a hard way. Thanks for sharing the info and the link.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to check in. I've just donated to Adopt an Elder with you in mind. Thanks for the reminder that we belong to a larger community of caring folks. "All is not the void and we shall not despair of joy." Take care.

Sorry to bother you about this, but a long time ago you posted about your hot wire fencing. Can you post a link to the manufacturer? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHere's the url: https://www.horseguardfence.com/
DeleteSo happy even this late in the blog to see my favorite New Mexicans. I've missed you very much. We've all lost nearly a year of happiness, haven't we?
ReplyDeleteEven your usual reptiles give me a thrill. Unfortunately, around here we usually see them flat in the road. 😢 I still see the picture I took of Reggie, the rat snake, so full of our barn swallow babies that he was unable to squeeze back through the crack in the loft floor!
Stay with us and send some photos of your beautiful country to brighten our days.
Much love, *Auntie Em+ in TN
Missing your posts :( Since Danni doesn't post any more either, could you let us know how she and her family are doing during all of these terrible fires? Have they fled to your neck of the woods yet? Please and thank-you!
ReplyDeleteOne day I will dump out all the pictures from my camera and phone from the summer and post them. Really I will. In the meantime, Danni and her farm are still intact - she posts occasionally on instagram (@critterfarmgirl), if that helps. I fear we are both members of the bad bloggers club. But thanks for still caring about us!
DeleteThanks for the update, much appreciated. Glad that you are both doing ok. Weren't you at some point contemplating moving to the nw? I understand not wanting to blog these days, it's hard to be upbeat when so much around us is falling apart but we are doing better than some so I try to think positively.
DeleteTake care!
Yes yes yes... Let's see the photos. We need some happy sweet photos. Lisa G in TN
DeleteI am more than happy to see you back. I did check every week or so just hoping and there you were, Thanks for the great pictures. Have a happy thanksgiving, give every one an extra treat to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteI hope you post again, I came to visit and it has been so long! I want to hear more about your sweet donkeys.
ReplyDeleteMiss your annual Christmas pictures of all the critters. Pray that you are all healthy and safe. Lisa G in TN
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, thank you for the many posts over the years and wonderful pictures you share. I love seeing what fun things your fur babies do.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteSure do miss your posts. I hope you and the critters are well and 2020 wasn't too tough on you. Wishing you a happy holiday season and the best in 2021.

Miss you and your animals. I do hope you'll be back soon.
ReplyDeleteMiss you. Hope you are well. You are probably glued to the tv, or packing boxes, or...
ReplyDeleteA word to know everything is OK would be good.
Mick
I hope you are okay.
ReplyDeleteCarson, Now can you at least think about comming back and blogging again? It's over and America has exhaled. With Covid 19, we need something to look forward too, and your blog has always felt that way to me. It was where I went when I needed a place of peace and warmth.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear!!
DeleteJust wondering where you are and how you are.
ReplyDeleteCarson, how are you doing? We miss you.
ReplyDeleteI check every day or so to see if you have returned to your blog........we miss it! I do follow you on instagram but its not the same as this blog. Hope you are well and in a good place. I feel much better now (as of January) but covid lockdown has been surreal. I have had my first vaccine which is a relief and looking forward to the second and some immunity! Hope you are well and vaccinated too. Take care.
ReplyDeleteAs others, came back to see if you checked in... Hope you come back. :-) Did my taxes last night and am getting a small refund. Went and purchased a small rug from the Adopt an Elder page. Oh, there are so many beautiful ones out there! Hope all is going well for you... from the MD side of DC...
ReplyDeleteJust checking in. Thinking of you and wishing you well in this beautiful springtime. Take care.
ReplyDeleteLaurieB
Miss your updates! I hope all is OK as it can be in your part of the world.
ReplyDeleteWould you please let us know that you are OK? It's worrisome that you are so far from civilization and we haven't heard from you in a long time.
ReplyDeleteI keep coming to check!
ReplyDeleteI just started reading your blog when the pandemic hit and have so enjoyed it. I do hope you will come back!
ReplyDeleteHi Carson,
ReplyDeleteWe are all wondering how you are doing. Could you please just sign in and say Hi? We do miss you so!
Jill
Hoping for an annual update on how everyone is? Lisa G in TN
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if Carson is okay? The animals? Did they move?
