Smooch and Alex go to town

Smooch had a checkup at the vet yesterday, so we all piled into the truck
for our first family road trip.

Alex sat in the front, where I could more closely supervise
and she could more closely watch the cows go by.

Smooch sat in the back seat.
She couldn't watch much of anything because the windows are so dirty.

The rattlesnake who showed up on the back porch on Monday
sat in a trash can in the truck bed until we got to snake-release hill.

Smooch's checkup could not have gone better. She's been on her new diet
of homemade dog food since June, and judging by the results of yesterday's blood work,
it's had a very positive effect. She has lost weight though,
so I just need to give her more of it. I'm sure she won't mind.

Alex: I wouldn't mind if we went home now.

  1. Yay for good news. Plus a road trip for everyone.
For my two dogs I made treats to also keep their weight up. Easy one is 2 little jars turkey baby food puree, two cups whole wheat flour or oat flour, 1 egg. Spread on parchment paper about 1/2 inch thick in large square on a cookie sheet, bake at 350 for about 30 min, cut in to squares with a pizza cutter. These were the winner out of all the homemade treats. Lisa G in TN

    1. I make treats for Smooch and Alex with the parchment paper/cookie sheet/pizza cutter method. It's allegedly for diabetic dogs but the ingredients are pure and simple and how could any dog not like them?

    2. Yes...I started with those too. The baby food meat puree was just easier than the liver and they liked it better. Easy to keep baby food on hand in the pantry. I even would hide pills in small spoons of baby food and freeze it.
Love seeing Alex grow up and all her adventures with Smooch.

  3. They are both the sweetest. And you are a far better person than I am giving that rattler a ride to snake release hill.

  5. Such good dogs! Breathing a huge sigh of relief at the wonderful test results. Also, maybe just a small thing, but I LOVE seeing Smooch’s Ranch Security collar on her again, rather than attached to the handle on the dashboard in front of the passenger seat. :-)

  6. Smooch looks good. Alex is doing her best to be a concerned friend. They both have such expressive eyes.

  8. Smooch is looking very svelte. More and more of my "older" friends have lost weight but it's just not happening for me. I might need to try Smooch's diet.
