Bet you didn't know Smooch was a pothead

Not that kind of pothead, this kind of pothead:
Let me back up.

Every other Sunday, I make a new batch of dog food for Smooch.
I started her on this new diet for her kidney disease in early June
and she loves it, to the point of being totally obnoxious about it.
I have to leave her outside while I'm cooking or else she'll stand in the kitchen
staring at me until I'm done...

...because she knows I always let her clean the pot.

I'm not sure if it's the new diet, the addition of Alex into her life
or a combination of the two, but Smooch is on a healthy streak,
and as long as we can keep that going, she can lick as many pots as she wants.

  1. Love it! I cooked for mine the last 7 years. Our boy, Teddy, would camp out in front of the stove whenever turkey was cooking or if any type of jerky was drying! It was absolutely pitiful, but there was no persuading him to move. Fresh homemade food made them both trim and so much healthier. Absolutely worth the effort. Lisa G in TN.

  2. Did we know Smooch has kidney disease? I must have missed that post. She's extra pretty without her collar!

    1. At our house that is called “quality control”. Both husband and adult sons partake in said operation !

Glad Smooch is enjoying the homemade food - a little mess in the kitchen is so worthwile to keep her healthy!

  6. Amen to pot-licking and whatever else this loving dog wants during her senior years.

  8. I'm glad your homecooked diet is doing Smooch good. Sweet baby deserves to lick a pot or two.

  9. I looooove that she’s back to her spunky self again - it must be the combined Alex/delicious food effect. Good girl, Smoochie.

  10. Sweet Smooch. I cook for our dogs, too, and they also help clean up the mess. It's better than rinsing all that good stuff down the drain, and it gives Ruby and Petal a way to contribute to the effort. Glad to hear that Smooch is doing well. I adore her!

  11. What you're feeding her with this home cooked diet is so much better/healthier than the Hill's diet. Check the ingredients list for the K/D diet vs. the ingredients in your home cooked diet.
