It's not polite to stare at someone while they're eating...

...even if it's only a stick.

Refrigerator update:
Thank you, dearest blog commenters, for sharing your advice, opinions and
refrigerator horror stories. I have decided to purchase a new one.
In fact, it is supposed to be delivered a week from today.

The broken one is a Whirlpool, the new one is a Frigidaire, purchased with
a 5-year protection plan from Lowe's. It is not the refrigerator of my dreams,
since it has an icemaker which I will never connect to my well water,
but the reviews are promising and it was on sale.
Let us all hope that this is the last you'll ever read about refrigerators on this blog.
And thanks again for your advice.
I couldn't have made this decision without you.

  3. Good looking fridge. Our Frigidaire is not French door, but we do love it. Now you can walk around quoting Shel Silverstein's poem from A Light in the Attic. "There's a polar bear in my Frigidaire,He likes it cause it's cold in there....

  6. It's not going to work Alex. Smooch isn't susceptible to your trancing stare. She's not giving up the stick. BTW, that frig looks like it can chill several bottles of wine. Good choice!

    1. I love how you think. I wonder if it will hold a case?

  7. How fortunate you are, to have these two special companions. And now, you will have an extra refrigerator for emergencies. Rebecca2

  8. Congrats on a new fridge that should last you … like … forever!! Ice cube trays serve the same purpose as an icemaker, however, without the worry of an icemaker nor the expense when the damned thing quits pooping out cubes! Been there, done that one! LOL

Oh my, Alex does love to taunt Smooch and those wrinkles on Smooch's nose speak volumes! Congratulations on the frig purchase, anything else we can help you spend your money on?? :)

  11. I have to tell you one more caveat; if your space for the fridge is against a wall, you won't be able to open the French door fully and that can be very annoying if you're trying to clean or load wide dishes. It's a real pain in the hinder. Ask me how I know!

    1. I removed my under-sink RO system a few years back because it could never make my well water drinkable.

  13. Carson, we have a Frigidaire and it is nearly 18 years old! Yes, you should hear the compressor click on...ours has an ice maker and a water dispenser. We do love the ice maker, however, because hubby makes tea every day and in the summer, he turns it into ice tea by using EVERY. SINGLE. LITTLE. BLOCK of ice in the damn freezer! But, it does keep us cool. Oh, and he has a separate wine cooler...

  15. When I could not use my water for the ice maker I just used a pitcher and poured water into the tray, it froze and then emptied. When I thought about it I filled the tray again and before long I had plenty of ice in the ice drawer. It was about the same as filling ice trays but saved a bit of room in the freezer.

  16. I would never have imagined how much Alex would enrich Smooch's life...and mine.

  17. Congrats for your new fridge. It looks like Smooch is saying: this stick is mine and I'll prove it by eating it!

  18. Your new fridge will hold a lot of wine, but if you had not gotten the counter-depth it would hold a case for sure. The big drawer across the bottom is my favorite part of mine. I use it for anything that doesn't stack well or doesn't come in a rigid container. I love putting things in zipper bags or small plastic reusable containers that all fit beautifully in that drawer. AND the freezer is the full width of the unit. I had a side-by-side and hated it. Only little stuff would fit in the freezer. What about a turkey or a pizza? I think you'll love it.
I agree that Alex has enriched your lives. She certainly takes away the boredom and keeps Smooch active. I'm so happy that Smooch accepted Alex so easily. What a sweetheart!

  19. I had the ice maker removed from mine, it gave me a lot more room. I would call Lowes and ask about it!
