When doves fly ... into windows

  1. It is kind of like those Windex commercials . . . your windows are so clean the birds fly into them!

    1. I wish. My windows are only ever clean for the first 10 minutes after I wash them.

  2. Ok....is this the aftermath of the hit into the window? Or fancy photography trick?
Pretty amazing either way. Had a bird hit window yesterday...but just left a smudge. Lisa G in TN

  3. Dove fly into my windows sometimes, and leave a print similar to this, but you got a really good photo it. I've never seen the face imprint like this, however. People MUST have windows; and birds will fly into them. Fact.

    1. I feel much less guilty now. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Usually robins here. Sometimes get an image, but not that dramatic. Will see the body on the ground sometimes too. Once it was a bird from oriole family. That beautiful bright orange under tail.

    1. Apparently New Mexico doves bounce really well – I haven't found any bodies on the ground. Then again, the feral beast is pretty fast...

  7. There's a company that makes translucent stickers to put on your windows, no adhesive, they adhere by static, they look great and they're 100% effective. I've lost too many birds over the years not to use them. I got mine at a local wild bird feed store, but here's a link to the Home depot offering, which at least gives you the idea. https://www.birdbgone.com/window-alerts-decals-12-pk.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAirXFBRCQyvL279Tnx1ESJAB-G-QvTNqdYQTnr1eZTwpfPYj1omexEfoBtfs2fECEbe1jxRoCszvw_wcB

  8. Yikes. That had to sting.

  9. oh, this made me smile, not for the poor dove, but at a fond memory of my old kitty. We had a house on a hill and occasionally the random bird would hit the glass with a thump (and leave a print too): kitty would run to the door asking to be let out, in the hopes the stunned bird was catchable (for she was a mostly indoor cat and not a very competent hunter). Your feral beast is much quicker I bet...

  10. Hobbes can be dead to the world, asleep and will bolt for a door when he hears that sort of bird hit. Free lunch!
Oddly, doves are the only birds at my house that leave those impressions on the glass. They fly fast and furious when the local Cooper's Hawk makes an appearance.

  12. I laughed, too! But then realized what an awesome photo, very cool

  13. Oh my gosh I've had that ghost imprint of a dumb dove on my window before! They are the dumbest birds. I saw one panic and fly straight into the side of the house one time just because I walked out of the garage about twenty feet away.

Sorry, I laughed too! Poor bird. My pet finch doesn't fly into the window only because he's a big chicken, afraid of everything! Even sunshine! Ha ha!
