The chosen one

I didn't know it at the time, but I embarked upon a home semi-makeover

in mid-December, when I decided to improve the lighting in my kitchen.

One of the many things that has been affected by that decision

is the light fixture over the dining room table. I needed wanted a new one.

I ordered it from Pottery Barn, and because living in the middle of nowhere means

never knowing where your UPS packages will be delivered,

I had it sent to a friend's house in Albuquerque. 

That gave me an excuse to take Friday off from work to pick it up. 

And go to lunch with a friend. And then do about a half dozen other fun things,

for which I was punished with a flat tire the second I got home,

but that's a story for another time.

Anyway, early New Year's Eve afternoon, I embarked upon the installation

of the new light fixture. It was not fun. The wiring part was easy,

the toggle bolts in the ceiling were not. The installation

did not span into the new year, but it was close.

Let there be lights...
