The chosen one

I didn't know it at the time, but I embarked upon a home semi-makeover
in mid-December, when I decided to improve the lighting in my kitchen.
One of the many things that has been affected by that decision
is the light fixture over the dining room table. I needed wanted a new one.

I ordered it from Pottery Barn, and because living in the middle of nowhere means
never knowing where your UPS packages will be delivered,
I had it sent to a friend's house in Albuquerque.
That gave me an excuse to take Friday off from work to pick it up.
And go to lunch with a friend. And then do about a half dozen other fun things,
for which I was punished with a flat tire the second I got home,
but that's a story for another time.
Anyway, early New Year's Eve afternoon, I embarked upon the installation
of the new light fixture. It was not fun. The wiring part was easy,
the toggle bolts in the ceiling were not. The installation
did not span into the new year, but it was close.

Let there be lights...

...lights without chains.

  10. I was worried at first that those naked bulbs would be harsh - but they almost look like candlelight! Did you buy them separately? did they come with the fixture? are they expensive?

    1. The bulbs weren't included. Pottery Barn sold some for $25 each. NFW. So I bought these on Amazon for $7 each (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01545WAFS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). They're ok, but the color they give off is a weird yellow so I'll probably exchange them.

  18. Georgeous lighting! Both kitchen and dining room. And no wires make me happy too, but I have to pay good money to get that ... hat off to you. And love the wooden beam between the living area and dining room, you have a really lovely home there.

  26. Funny how even the simplest project has a way of dominoing into a series projects and none of them turn out to be simple.

  29. Ohhhh myyyy. It's beautiful. I love it. I also love that they look high enough from the table that no klutzy guest of yours will (repeatedly) hit their head on it every time they stand up. cough, cough

  31. I'd like to know how you held this large fixture up against the ceiling with one hand and wires attached in order to fasten it to the ceiling. Did you "use your head", literally? Did you pull the fixture up to the ceiling using a wire in the attic? So impressive how much you are getting done lately, it all looks so nice!
