Mad Dog

It's been a week since Smooch's multiple bump-ectomy and she's bouncing back nicely,
though she has yet to grasp the concept that the cone makes her head a foot wider
and still struggles getting in and out doors.

On Monday, she figured out that she could use her back right paw
to scratch those itchy stitches on her belly, so I made her wear a t-shirt,
hoping that would help. It didn't.

On Tuesday, we returned to the vet to check the damage, which wasn't too bad,
but the vet put a new bandage on her back paw so she wouldn't be able to rip out her stitches.

Smooch is mad at the world but is settling into her role as canine fashion trendsetter.

  2. Oh the shame, she'll never forgive you for this. Well, at least until it all comes off. Smooch is such a good girl.

  3. Poor Smooch! I always wonder what our canine friend think when they have surgery. Thank goodness they don't put those cones on us!!

  4. Oh poor Smooch. She does look very fashionable but also very annoyed. Then again, don't all "new trendy" clothing models usually look annoyed at the world anyway. Feel better Smooch.

  5. Poor Smooch, she goes back and gets another bandage for no good reason...( she thinks) But I do believe that pink is her color!

  6. Poor Smooch. I always feel badly for any dog that has to wear one. But, she still wags that tail! Look at her sticking out her tongue at you! Ha!

  7. Jennifer Beals in Flash Dance has nothing on Smooch!

  8. Poor little baby. We went through the same thing with our golden. It was pitiful, and she looked like Chucky after the surgery. Time heals. It's just hard to watch them be miserable. Hugs to all.

  9. I'm thinking that Smooch could be "The Headless Horseman" for Halloween....

  11. I've been out of town and return to find poor Smooch looking like an upside down lamp! Oh the indignity of it all! Hope everything turns out okay for her.

Poor Smoochie-poo! At least her tail is wagging, so I think she's not mad all the time, right?! lol
I hope her stitches heal up soon so that she can get back to digging and running around!!

  13. Poor Smooch. When I had my dog neutered, he wouldn't wear that cone. He would stand in one place and cry. The vet called it cone paralysis. He had to wear pajama pants instead.

  14. Smooch - all set for trick or treating. That cone will be invaluable when it comes time to go door to door for dog bones.

  15. You are stylin' in black&pink, Smooch! Much better than what the vet put on my XL dog's head when there wasn't a large enough cone available: a pail. A big, silvery plastic bucket with a hole cut into the bottom to slip over his head. This contraption had the side effect of my dog running away from me when I called him on our first post-op walk. The louder I called (worried that he might bump into the orchard trees and get hurt), the faster "pail face" ran away from me. It took me a moment to realize that he was simply running in the direction where, to him, with that pail over his head, my voice seemed to come from... (So I kept quiet and ran to catch up and all was well.:) -- Get well soon, Smooch!

  16. Not a happy pooch but boy is she stylish!

Our lab mutt had to wear one after his operation. Like Smooch, he had no concept of space so the door frames took it pretty hard. But as he was a pup, it was our legs that suffered as our «conehead the barbarian» would charge towards us wearing his cone and stop when the cone hit our legs. Aside from the bruises on my legs, I barely needed to shave them as the sharp edges of the plastic cone did the work for me : -)

P.S. Oh yeah, I never thought that Smooch was just in time for Halloween!
She could be a satellite dish! ;)
