The feral beast and I had just finished our photo shoot of the vine
when who should cross our garden path but a female broad-tailed hummingbird...I think.
I'm pretty bad at the whole bird identification thing.
Whatever species...
...she sure was a beauty, and fearless, too –
I was standing about a foot away.
Hum along if you remember the Seals and Croft song from the seventies.
The sweetness of your nectar
Has drawn me like a fly
I just love you, love you, love you
I don't even know the reason why
Me: Don't even think about it.
Hummingbird: Is he fast enough to grab me out of the air?
Me: I hope not.
Hummingbird: Just one more sip and I'm out of here. No point taking chances.
These are beautiful photos Carson! They look like little paintings!
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome shots of the hummer Carson! I find them very hard to capture cuz around here they don't hold still long enough. 🙁🙁🙁🙁
ReplyDeleteWOW! Awesome images. I love photographing them. Not an easy job, fast little buggers.
ReplyDeleteWow. Cool pictures! I love hummingbirds, and we often get them in our backyard flower garden. It's hard to take pictures of them, so kudos to you Linda.
ReplyDeleteThe most amazingly, breathtakingly beautiful photography!
ReplyDeleteamazing pictures... every one frame-worthy.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Brave little birds, indeed, and amazingly territorial. My feeder is a battleground, (imagine 'Flight of the Bumblebee' playing in the background), and it's hard to get anything done watching the competition going on. They expend so much energy trying to evict each other, and there are 8 (eight) stations on my feeder! They could be on opposite sides and perch to drink to their limits, but no. It is Mad Max out there. How lovely that you have a happy little hummer to enjoy your beautiful vine!
You take amazing pictures!
ReplyDeleteStunning!
ReplyDeletePerfect backdrop (your house) to really bring out the color of the flowers and the hummingbird!! Great photos!!
ReplyDeleteOMG ... not much I can add to what everyone else has said about these hummer shots ... they are simply stunning!! Thank you for sharing!!

ReplyDeleteSuch ninja camera skills you have. Beautiful pictures. JCC knew better than to mess up the photo session with his wild beastiness. This time.
ReplyDeleteAdd my praises to the list - those photos are phenomenal! I don't even think the mighty JCC is quick enough to snag a hummingbird. :D

ReplyDeleteI was curios so I looked it up, it looks like a Black-chinned hummingbird female.

ReplyDeleteSpectacular thank you !
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous pictures. Of course, I looked up broad-tailed hummingbird and you got it right.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how far they have to travel to get such yummy nectar as you have there. He might not have been afraid because he was so hungry. Gorgeous pictures.
ReplyDeleteOurs left a week ago for their migration. I miss them but now the cats can go into the hummingbird yard. They are also fascinated by them... for the wrong reason
