Smooch achieves senior status

Smooch had her annual physical last week,

wherein the vet reminded me that Smooch is 10-1/2 years old.

 How did that happen?!

So Smooch received her first "senior" wellness exam, wherein the vet
stretched and flexed and rotated Smooch's back legs and said, "what good hips you have."

Then she examined Smooch's teeth and said, "what interesting tartar you have."
Apparently, Smooch has very special tartar, not caused by food but by mineral deposits.
We concluded my well water must be the culprit.

Smooch has a bump on her side and another bump on her paw that we've been monitoring
for a few years. This time, the vet measured them and said she'd remove them if they
got bigger by the time of Smooch's next visit which, because she's achieved senior status,
will now be at six-month intervals.

Smooch: Getting old sucks.

Me: I couldn't agree with you more.

  1. Yeah, you bet. I'm ahead of you both -- I was 10 1/2 a while ago -- & it is the pits! I'm not as cute as either one of you, either!

  2. Sweet Smooch, you look mahhhhvelous. Your mom takes such good care of you.
I'm envious of your good hips! :-)

  4. No way is Smooch that age?! She acts like she's 4-5 years. All that clean outdoor living.

  5. It happens so fast...and I just hate it. I remember my 40th, which was 21 years ago...but everything from that point until now seems like Jodie Foster's ride through space in 'Contact'. It's a blur.

  6. I don't look at it as getting older. Just getting better, like a vintage wine! Smooch is looking good though.

  7. Wow 10 1/2 years of ranch security and never took a day off! Well, you don't look a day over 5.

  8. She wears it well. And she would like you to know that the "Ahem" cat may well take years off her life through simple annoyance :)

  9. Have read your blog for a long time. Suppose it's time to step up and comment. Smooch is a wonderful dog. Glad you are taking such good care of him. Sounds like you have a first class vet.

  10. My own comments exactly ...and, even more vehemently and explicitly and also with a few expletives added for good measure, Smooch....it definitely sucks!

  11. Smooch is a special gal. Tell her not to worry about being upgraded to senior status, that just makes her smarter and more worldly! She's such a great dog.

  12. My dog is 14 1/2 and doing very well. Smooch doesn't look a day over 2.

Obviously, some of us (that would be me) age more gracefully than others, lol. Smooch looks wonderful and I hope she has many more years in front of her.

  15. I always wonder if those senior animal check-ups are for the good of my pet or for the good of my vet's pocket

  18. I agree with you and Smooch (that getting older sucks!), but my Ginger is 15+, and still going strong, knock on wood. Turning 60 last summer has really sunk in, and I'll be damned if I'm going to look or act like it. 'Nuf said!

The best to both of you, and the other furred and feathered.
