Pillow talk

If a day goes by when you don't see a new post here,
it's because of this:

At what point does a casual hobby become an addiction?
I may have crossed the line.

Maybe when the summer rolls around and it gets too hot,
I'll be able to stop.
Who am I kidding?
There might be big discounts on yarn then
to feed my addiction.

You will know that it has gotten out of hand
when I get a couple of sheep.

  1. Leggings for the boys. Chicken jackets. Line the fence with knitting. Well, not the entire fence, just that around the house. JCC might need a mohair bed. My cat licks mohair until it looks like a sheep. Angora sheep. Stream of consciousness.

  2. What a great addiction! The pillows are WONDERFUL! If you need a break from pillow-making you can make beds for Smooch and Johnny (and the chickens, and then there's decor for Lucy and the boys to consider....

I understand so well the fiber arts & crafts addiction and I think the same way ... hmmm off season so they will put the inventory on SALE!!

How does Johnny behave around all the tempting yarn?

    1. I love to crochet outside on the front porch after work when the sun is going down. Picture me having to protect the yarn and a glass of wine from the feral beast. It's not easy.

  9. There's always cashmere goats. I have my heart set on a couple of alpacas and a spinning wheel and to to dye my own yarn and spin it and to crochet it into lovely things. It is definitely a fun addiction.

  14. Are you on Ravelry yet? Have you started to buy your yarn online in bulk yet? Have you dropped a hook into the couch and seriously debated the effort of taking apart the couch vs buying a new hook? Have you found delightful new places to stash your yarn? If you're hiding your yarn from Smooch, then you know you have a problem. Otherwise, the rest of that is not a problem, not even one tiny little bit. BTW, if you can get your hands on an old library card catalog, you can take out the metal rods which held in the cards and the drawers will hold two skeins of yarn apiece. Lovely AND functional!

    1. Sounds like we both need a 12-step program. I'll be on the lookout for one of those library pieces - the dresser in the guestroom is almost full.

  15. Oh, groan, I dig your problem. Mine is crewel embroidery. Once I start, I do almost nothing else. Hundreds of hours until my hands ache but still "just want to finish a little more..." grows into another half day. At least your stuff is useful -- your Etsy shop will be famous! Who the heck wants embroidered pillows or little embroidered horsies? Aaargh!!

    2. Well, if you're giving them away, I'll take the third one down on the left...ha! (I'll pay you for it!) The colors are perfect for me. Yvonne in WV.

  18. I'm finding my evening involves crocheting at least one quilt square! And I've got family orders now for the crocheted donkeys I made for my granddaughters. Keeping those fingers busy at night is a good thing - keeps me away from the snacks cupboard!

  19. Have I got an idea for you!!! We went with a group to a winery town and were given lanyards that hold wine glasses. They were ugly, but you can crochet your own. I did a search for them and added the word 'pattern' at the end. I found a crochet pattern for a wine glass lanyard. JCC would have a hard time knocking over a glass of wine you're wearing. Here's a link to the one I found, but I did not search for more. I bet you could create your own pattern. By the way, those pillows are beautiful. I love that bubble stitch. http://www.dealdetectingdiva.com/2015/02/free-crochet-pattern-wine-glass-lanyard-giveaway.html/

  22. We just sheared the sheep and I've 7 bags of raw wool hanging in the shed. If you really want to try it out from scratch, let me know, I'll send you you some. A bit of a trial before you buy the sheep:)

  23. Wow you are good! I know this lady that makes booties/hats for newborns so every baby that leaves the hospital gets a treat from her so you might have to start doing something like that.

  24. Love all the products, the activity and the idea! Yes to a little herd of sheep!

  25. Great pillows! I used to knit and crochet all the time. Sort of got out of it, don't know why. Anyway if you're interested in a very nice blog with sheep and a woman who makes her own wool head over to Punkins Patch at www.myfavoritesheep.blogspot.com. It's interesting and looks like she has a lot of fun. She just finished the Iknitarod which is something you might like.

  27. Those are so lovely! Hobbies can be addicting for sure! I'm the same way, creating a new hobby for myself and I then want to make ALL THE THINGS, but only so many people to give them to! Etsy store here we come (I'd buy that orange and white pillow in a heartbeat)...

  28. Those look so soft and snuggly! My big crafty love is crocheting Amigurumi critters. They are so cute and there is always another adorable pattern lined up ready for me to make. I think my whole family has at least one by now and others have winged their way off to be surprise gifts for FB friends and such. Got to make room to make more! :) I also do granny square afghans for times when I want to chat or watch telly and not do any counting. Finished one today actually, but the joining together stage is not my fave thing. Think my next one will be one big giant granny square, no joining required, and nice and warm to make over the winter months here Downunder. Crafting with yarn is so peaceful.

  30. Just finished another chemo-cap last night and had missed this post 2 days ago. You GO girl. Soon, we will be seeing photos of stash and more stash. I see my pillow...:) and still love it, but I love the one above and to the left of it too. Yum! You are invited to join our Monday night knit/crochet/embroider/chat/eat/chat more/ group at Panera on Monday nights in TN. They will have one of your pages they will be interested in now. *lol* Just can't get them to look at burros and chickens.
