Rattlesnake relocations are like snowflakes

  1. For those little itty bitty ones would a claw pole work well or isn't it long enough? (The kind that they pick up trash with.)

Too bad there isn't a river you could cross before letting them go. Or do they swim? ;)

  2. ....each one is unique.

Well, I will have to wait until later ... the-you-tube is blocked at my current location .
(Oddly enough, vimeo is viewable, and all those rotten adds that slow down page loads).

can't wait to hear the commentary :) :)

  3. You bet! No two alike. What an adventure! Hard work, too -- you're Wonder Woman today (or yesterday).

  4. Thank you for relocating snakes rather than killing them. Good karma for you, I'm sure!

  5. I think of your life at th 7MSN as akin to the 12 Labors of Hercules. He killed his wife and 6 sons. So, I'm thinking you must be doing penance for something, Linda. What dark past ar you hiding?

  6. Your head camera, jacket, and snake pole make your shadow look like a Samurai warrior. I was waiting for some Samurai vocalizations to go along with the snake catching. :-)

  7. Usually these snake catching videos don't bother me but this one kind of did. It was in the suspense of moving the bales and knowing it was in there somewhere. I probably would've just thrown a bomb in there.

  8. Do you thinks the snakes have a secret code on your house that indicates you don't go after them with a shovel?

  9. I am with Janet, I would have had a cocktail in one hand and a bomb in another. I just couldnt take that kind of stress.

  10. Yeah I'm with Janet. I was kind of worried you'd need to run away then you'd trip over a hay bale. I'm really glad that didn't happen and the snake removal was successful.
A good while ago, you were doing an experiment where you marked the snakes with paint to see if they were coming back. I never saw a follow up to that -- DID they ever come back?

    1. Yes, the marked snake came back, and it turns out that marking them with spray paint is a bad thing. Here's the address to that post:

  11. Carson, you are just the best snake catcher. I can see that on a CV. Anyway glad all went well for you and the snakes.

  12. I read your blog everyday, and always with a wistful, sort of lustful heart longing to be free of the burdens of living in a city. I fantasize about feeding watermelon to your babies, gathering eggs, and smooching Smooch. I'm not afraid of hard work, in fact, I love working hard. It is the posts about snakes, and the Starbucks near my house that keep me planted where I am. : / I can't even begin to put into words how much I admire you, and appreciate the way you look after your babies, and the way you respect nature. I'm just waiting for the big reveal one day, of your cape. I know you must have one. I wonder if it has fringe or sparkles...: )

  13. That was relocating with a side of wrangling. ;D
(forgive me if you've already explained this) What is the reason you don't let the non-poisonous snakse hang around?
    My guesses:
They give you heart attacks when you uncover their hidey holes?
You want to save the baby bull snake from the bloodthirsty chicken ladies?
Smooch would go off the deep end?

    1. Smooch would go off the deep end, and even though a bullsnake bite isn't venomous, a bite is still a bite and a vet bill.
