It was around 7:00 Tuesday evening. Smooch was outside and I was inside working on a blog post.
Smooch barked to come in, so of course I opened the door,
completely forgetting that Johnny was inside.
A whole lot of hissing ensued.
Smooch backed off immediately.
Johnny claimed a safe spot on the windowsill, where he could attack if necessary.
Unwilling to be looked down upon, Smooch claimed a safe spot on her rug just outside the office.
Me: No, Smooch, I'm not going to make the cat go outside.
You two have to learn to get along.
It's a good thing Smooch can't see around corners.
Johnny: I've got her bed and her favorite toy. Score a point for me.
Smooch eventually reclaimed her territory without incident;
however, the tension in the office was not conducive to me finishing the blog post,
so Johnny was sent outside, scoring a point for Smooch with the evening ending in a tie.
i am thinking they did really good, and that there is hope for the future that you will be able to blog while they rest together in peace.
ReplyDeleteSounds like real progress to me! I'm with Smooch on this one, though ... cats must NOT claim the dog bed in the presence of said dog.
ReplyDeletecats and dogs,,,does one need anything else to keep entertained?
ReplyDeleteLooks like they found the perfect tableau to allow for a semi-peaceful winter. Smooch in her bed and Johnny up high on the back of the chair and both looking lovingly at you :)
ReplyDeleteIt's like introducing two cats to live together. They will work it out and someday maybe even cuddle together. Just takes time for them to learn to trust each other.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see that the "friendship" tolerance is gradually easing into more and more. Hopefully soon they will peacefully coexist and you won't have to oversee with trepidation.
ReplyDeleteGood Smooch. It's one of the unfair things in life, dogs always have to learn to yield to cats.
ReplyDeleteis it really unfair?
DeleteLinda, I think this link is really on purpose with this post:http://faithtap.com/1030/cats-stealing-dogs-beds/
DeleteGlad for detente and all, but Smooch was first in time, therefore first in the hearts of this countrywoman.
ReplyDeleteI think they will end up best buds, just have to figure out who's going to be the boss. I loved how Johnny went right for the thing that is Smooch's.
ReplyDeleteI wish for all that they would tolerate each other. I'm sure with time it will get better (I hope). When they are outside does Smooch want to chase Johnny? Betsy
ReplyDeleteMy cat will get on the giant dog beds, too. I swear, it's just to tick off the dogs.
ReplyDeleteHa haaa love Johnny in Smooch's bed!
ReplyDeleteWonder if you put a bed for Johnny next to it? Them fight in' words?
Johnny in Smooch's bed is priceless. They may learn to tolerate each other, and hopefully can both be inside when it gets super cold!
ReplyDeleteThat photo of Johnny on Smooch's bed is priceless, cheeky fellow. Our dog has at least 80 lbs. on our cat and she's still intimated by that little feline.
ReplyDeleteoh so clever Johnny, he sent Smooch a message in her own bed. don't worry, one evening of hissing and soon it will be over. put a headphone with music or television on your ears and let them manage their territory business
ReplyDeletedo I feel that maybe it is neither Smooch nor Johnny which aren't ready to co-habit?
ReplyDeleteHere in the Deep South, football rivalries are extreme...but the action at the 7MSN in the Johnny vs. Smooch (or Cat vs. Dog) match is just as intense!! I'm glad the ref (uh, you) ended the game for possible unsportsmanlike conduct...sitting on the opposing team's bench-bed is a flagrant foul, no doubt about it. Now, which one of your hens will you also call for being a flagrant fowl??!!
ReplyDeleteSmooch is being very good natured about this intrusion upon her "space." JCC gives the impression of a furrowed brow in the 2nd pic, along with "owl ears." Definitely a sign of irritation. But it's so nice to see them inside together.
ReplyDeleteSmooch is really working those abs in the gif ;D
ReplyDeleteToo funny.
