Johnny was making me a little crazy yesterday, asking to come in the house, then go back outside, all stinkin' day.
I photographed the madness and will share that story another time.
Meanwhile, I learned something new about him – or maybe cats in general.
As he stared at me through the filthy glass door with his perky ears and pleading eyes...
I learned he can rotate those ears as masterfully as the donkeys.
In this case, I think he even turned them inside out. Who knew?

Nice pix of Johnny Cash Cat.
ReplyDeleteIn other news: I now have a new addiction - Trader Joe's Meyer Lemon Thins. Thanks, Linda!
a word of advice, if you let him in and out when he asks it will get worse and worse and worse. been there done that.
ReplyDeletelove the inside out ears...
Too late. I don't think it can get any worse. He's already been in/out twice today and I've only been sitting here for 20 minutes.
Deletewhat a talented cat eh! IMO he was letting you know his food dish was empty.
ReplyDeleteCats have very expressive ears. I have NEVER seen a cat turn their ears inside-out! He is a very special kitty, indeed.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, my dogs and cat are continually on the wrong side of the door. I swear they must have a meeting every morning and take bets about how often I'll absent-mindedly let them in and out.
Behind Johnny, buried in the piles of hay in the barn, a mouse sneezed. As your picture shows, this annoyed him very much: should he go and track the little beast or continue to plead to you to open the invisible forcefield door??! You said at the start of the post that he continued all day to go in and out of the house...now you know it's because he just couldn't forget that mouse!!
ReplyDeleteDoes he scratch on the door like he's got inside information that the end is near?????? That's what Sunny Bunny used to do when he got on the "wrong" side of a door (in other words, where I was not). If he had had sharper claws we might have had to replace doors. Yes, I've seen this particular cat ear trick.....I think it means, NOW, dang it.
ReplyDeleteOh my God, the look on Johnny's face in the second photo , kills me dead.I think Johnny Cash Cat is lucky in life to have you!
ReplyDeleteOh yes. they are great ear twisters. and they can do them independently of each other, just like Lucy. that JCC is just the cutest kitty in New Mexico. can't wait to see and hear of his "in and out" adventures.
ReplyDeleteSitting here watching my cat's ears right now. They do use them the same as donkeys. I've even seen them pin them back when they are annoyed with each other.
ReplyDeleteCats do not like closed doors. They will force that battle relentlessly. JCC is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the whole "pet ownership" thing is such a fantasy. It's clear who's in charge here!
ReplyDeletehaha! makes me think about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... we are just one big experiment for the rats!
DeleteJohnny Cash Cat just wanted you to come outside with him - none of this sitting at a desk trying to get work done! If you had gone outside with him, he would have stopped trying to get through that door. :) He's your new boss, and he's assigned you a different job. Of course, he only pays in cuteness, not money.
ReplyDeleteJohnny is a handsome cat.
ReplyDeleteCats do not like closed doors. The litter box in our house is hidden in a wall of cabinets in the bathroom. It has its own little built in exhaust system. The cats have a door flap to get in and out of said cabinet wall. The thing is, the moment the main bathroom door is closed, using the litter box will become a MAJOR emergency announced with loud cries and wails from the other side of the door.
Laurie
He is such a cute cat.
ReplyDeleteIt's true. We had a cat who liked to listen to classical music. Beethoven was her favorite. She would sit between the speakers and her ears rotated toward the music. Ironically, she went deaf in her old age, just like Beethoven. Your cat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love just the very tips of his canines peeking out in the first pic and he looks like a horned owl in the second one.
ReplyDeleteWhen my Smokey gets annoyed with his little brother (little bother?) he rotates his ears just like that last pic of JCC. I tell Bandit, "you know he's serious now, he's got his owl ears on." So was funny to read someone else make that same comparison :)
DeleteI love the adventures of the 7MSN and visit first thing when I sign on. Dogs were domesticated by man, but cats chose to be with man to get mice and other critters that wanted grain, human food. I think that's the source of their independent natures. My cats always liked the freedom of coming in and out whenever they wanted and if I lived where it was warm I left the door open a bit. Not good if there are flies of course! Years ago I was able to get a screen thing I could put on the door frame that had a flap in it. Cats communicate with tails and ears. If I remember correctly, tail straight up is hello. Love visiting with you and the ranch hands!
ReplyDeletemaybe he wanted to show you something outside. you may install a flap trap for him in your door or teach in to come in through an open window
ReplyDeleteDid he hurt his nose, by the way? seems quite red
ReplyDeleteOh my, he is a handsome fellow. *sigh* Sounds like he has a bad case of spring fever. It's going around here, too.
ReplyDeleteJohnny is one handsome cat! Our neighborhood children have all been taught and remember "if the kitty's ears are pointing backwards-stop petting her or she will bit".
ReplyDeleteour little stray we took in 10 years ago will only stay outside if a)the weather is just a perfect 72 degrees and sunny or b) you really need him to come on inside b/c it is time to lock up and go to bed. So he is always scratching at the door to get in, but when you get him in and put him in kitchen, he is sitting at back door wailing to go back out. geesh.....
ReplyDeletethat JCC sure is a handsome fellow....
I am so familiar with those rotating ears! And Emma stares at me like that when she wants something, such as the food I'm eating. She will sit and stare at me forever without making a sound. I'm also using a power chair now most of the time, and once she got over her apprehension of the strange apparatus (I would NEVER use the word "fear" regarding her!), she decided it could move out of her way. She will lay in my path like a war protester in the 60s and 70s, knowing I won't run over her! JCC grows more handsome every time you post a picture!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I remember my grandmother calling one of our cats "In Again Out Again Finnegan"
ReplyDeleteCat flaps don't help. Our bossy cat wants /commands us to open our kitchen door for him even though his cat door is right next to it!
ReplyDeleteOur Amy was the only cat I've seen who didn't do this. She was deaf, and her ears were in a semi-permanent state of cure and pricked forward ... Unless she was annoyed, of course.
ReplyDeleteThose ears are interesting..........,
ReplyDeleteSurely you will have to give in and install a catflap......?
ReplyDeleteMind you, this is not a guarantee against having to get up every d@mn time to open and close the door for your cat. One of my two cats insists on going blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-blat-BLAT-BLAAAAAAAAT on the cat flap with his paw until it gets me SO MAD that I get up and open the door for him.
*ahem*. As you were.
I note that he can easily get in and out when I am not home to open the door for his royal catness.
