I was driving around in the Ranger on Sunday fixing fence, when I surprised this guy.
Me: Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you.
Me: It's just that I've got this thing for lovely long ears.

Saturday encore ~ What do jackrabbits and jackasses have in common?
That sounds like the beginning of a joke. I wish I had a punch line. What I do have, finally, are a few pictures. For as many jackrabbits that populate the desert southwest, you'd think I would have captured a few in my camera before now. It's not like they're hard to find. They can get to be the size of Volkswagens. If I'm not wearing my glasses, I can't tell the difference between a jackrabbit and a coyote because they're the same darned color and size. They're also very shy and very fast.

Big eyes, long ears. amazing how these fragile animals can survive in such a nature. I like the dark marks on top of their ears. would they have a purpose?
ReplyDeleteCarson, you are right about the size of jackrabbits! When I was out walking by the golf course, they would run out of bushes and I thought they were coyotes! They scared me nearly to death a couple of times! They're HUGE!

I don't think I have ever seen one up close... I guess I am just use to our fluffy soft bunnies here. He looks like he works out alot :-)

ReplyDeleteWhen I first moved to the rural area of Casper Wy I was amazed to see that jack rabbits travel in herds (like donkeys). Every morning there would be like 50 of them out there munching on the neighbors perfect lawn, running and chasing each other. They were fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteHe or she is beautiful! He looks much more intelligent and aware than a regular bunny too, such incredible eyes. And amazingly beautiful ears. Pure muscle. I'll bet they are fast.
