Last week I mentioned that one of the reasons why I had become attached to Johnny Cash Cat
was that he feeds the chickens breakfast every morning.
I wasn't going to illustrate my point, but since some of you asked...
How do I know about Johnny's hunting and the hens' gathering?
I've been using the sunroom as a sleeping porch lately because it's been so stinkin' hot.
Let's just say I hear things. It's kind of creepy, but I'm getting used to Johnny's nightly ritual.
The routine has become so predictable that I knew if I took the camera to bed,
I'd be able to capture the carnage without even rolling over.
When I built the room with a view, this isn't what I had in mind.
I've blurred the worst part of this photo – trust me.
Still images don't do justice to the enthusiasm with which the hens start their day,
knowing that Johnny has been busy all night preparing their breakfast. Herewith is the video version.
(The music is "The Hen's March to the Midden" by The Dubliners.)
So...makes me wonder....can what the chickens eat cause concern about eating their eggs? I think it might freak me out a bit.
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical! Chickens are so funny.
ReplyDeleteAnimals do an amazing job of cleaning up the environment.
ReplyDeleteGreat video, Carson. Fun choice of music too.
Best always,
I have to admit that I enjoyed that.
ReplyDeleteLord bless that Johnny Cash Cat! He is a very valuable addition to the 7MSN. Great video and loved the music. I'm going to check iTunes.
ReplyDeleteOh, Oh, Yep, NO words. Going to get more coffee.
ReplyDeleteTiny dinosaurs! I always wish folks that pay umpty dollars for "eggs from vegetarian fed chickens" could see videos like this. My girls will eat anything that won't eat them first. Love the music to your video!
ReplyDeleteWatched it three times! Loved the music most of all. Three cheers for Johnny Cash Cat!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that is so funny. I suppose because I have chickens, their conversation makes complete sense to me. And it doesn't gross me out at all. Gotta love a bunch of ranch animals that work together.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting relationship your animals have formed! I LOVED the music! I used to play violin a bit... and the 'hen clucking' would have been so much fun to play!
ReplyDeleteYour animals are all a riot - although, I wouldn't want to be caught unawares around your chickens! That Johnny is one smart kitty. He knows how to keep the ladies happy. Maybe he knows they have a killer instinct and if he keeps them in pack rats, they'll leave him alone. *grin*
ReplyDeletePerfect music!
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess free range rodent DOES kinda meet the concept of "Organic eggs. " Sure it's not what the fervent veggies envisage tho :)
ReplyDelete(No offense to any vegetarians - I just find fervent believers in anything a bit spooky)
The girls were very entertaining and I have to admit that it was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteBut then let's get to the root of this.....Johnny Cash Cat is a prince among cats. He has a job and does it, he provides for the woman folk, he leaves gifties, he is affectionate and loyal, he is handsome.....what more could anyone want from a cat? Heck I know a lot of ladies who would say those qualities would make a mighty good boyfriend, all except for the litter box thing. tee hee
What a great way to start the day - for the chickens and for me - loved the video!
ReplyDeleteThe reason I am always grateful that chickens are only 10 inches tall!
ReplyDeletethose are just beautiful chickens! they look so healthy, and many thanks to Johnny Cash Cat!
ReplyDelete..and we watch and are completely entertained by this posting/video.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the simple entertainment.
You do have the prettiest chickens.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Johnny is doing his job and wants you to know it.
Awesome video of the ladies having breakfast...But, better than bacon?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely NOT..BACON rules!!!
Love from NC
Applause to Great Hunter Johnny!
ReplyDeleteI'm a city girl, born and raised. Your chickens never cease to amaze me. I can't remember how I happened to find your blog, but I'm sure glad that I did. NOTHING goes as well with my morning coffee. And some days, like today, I return to see what comments you've elicited. Some days I just have to see what else is going on. Thanks for the time you take to keep us entertained and informed. And good luck with getting some rain soon. However, I for one would love to see a donkey wedding.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad Johnny Cat is doing his job and leaving entertainment for the girls! :-)
ReplyDelete~~Cheryl Ann~~
That was SO not my favorite post... Gulp... I'm clearly no country girl because totally grossed out... Good for you that you are not!
ReplyDeleteOh my freaking gosh!!! That is hysterical. Watching Clara's chicken butt waddle back and forth when she is running is too funny. And I also wanna say ewwwwwwwwww! You sure you wanna eat those eggs!? I guess they have extra protein :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to re-watch, it's been a crappy few days so I need the extra smiles :)
Well that was fascinating. I didn't really know what chickens ate before your blog. I remember the tarantula eating episode I had this feeling I was looking at a dinosaur. They look so cute and healthy and fluffy and then OMG!!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteMeece. It's what's for dinner!
