Saturday marked the end of Johnny and June's one-month incarceration in the feed room.
It was time to swing open the door and let them out to earn their keep.
Johnny finally got a good look at the four noisemakers on the other side of the door.
Johnny CashCat: I think I'll just stay right here if you don't mind.
I wasn't going to force the issue, so I closed the people door, opened the cat door, and went back in the house,
figuring Johnny would come out when he was good and ready.
That lasted about a half an hour. What if he couldn't figure out the cat door? I went back outside.
Me: Johnny CashCat! Come out come out wherever you are!
Hard to say who was more surprised when he poked his head out.
He took a good look around, assessed the situation...
...then went right back inside. Maybe he doesn't want to go on tour without June,
who is still hiding in her dressing room suffering from stage fright.
me think Johnny is not feral and June is... they are both really really beautiful cats. Love J upclose and personal shot.
ReplyDeleteah cats. They know you want them to go out so 'nope, not gonna'. Leave the door open accidentally and they are gone like a shot.
ReplyDeletetheir innate curiousity will win out in the end though.
Ha, I got a big kick out of your Johnny and June story. I sure hope they do decide to go on tour soon. I'm sure they'll do fabulously!
ReplyDeleteIt takes awhile but they'll be out soon. Cats are amazing creatures. I'm glad you have two. They will keep the critters at bay, but you might just find them on your doorstep. Ha! Good luck with them.
ReplyDeleteBest always,
Aaw the darlings. Imagine what a tough life Jane must have had to be content to live in hiding.
ReplyDeleteLove that shot of June! Will look forward to hearing about the adventures
ReplyDeleteHave you checked the Pack Rat situation yet? Maybe Johnny and June know what they are doing, staying in a little longer.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
I think I heard him say, "June, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore!"
ReplyDeleteOur kitty has two doors she can use. I will see her come out of the barn from one area, skulk around the barn - staying close to the wall and watching everything warily. Then she will hunker down next to her other door and watch the world, ready to pop into the barn if she feels threatened. I think that is why we have had her for two years!
Good grief! I'd forgotten all about the small furry critters! Teresa has it right - Emma is out like a shot if the door is opened and I don't want her to go.

Thanks for the update on Johnny and June. It takes time with ferals. That cat door would be rather scary for them.
ReplyDeleteHow cute, I just love the look on his face, "they expect me to live near those monsters?" Wait till he sees the pig.
ReplyDeleteCuriouser and Curiouser!
ReplyDeleteWell happy how do you do to Johnny on the outside of the barn. And June will eventually lose her stage fright and let her inner big cat take over I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThey are both such beauties. Our third cat is still a one room kitty. Toad just stays in Shelle's room and that's all the world she wants. The other two have given her so much grief that she is gonna stay put.
Hope Johnny and June get on the the tour of the "big critters" area soon. Happy Cinco de Mayo Amiga, Oma Linda
Oh, I've been waiting for an update on the cats! How interesting. Yes, they each have their own personality! It will take time for them to settle in, but who wouldn't want to live at the 7MSN?

I believe June is enjoying her safety and security to the fullest. Johnny will figure out the cat door just fine. Probably when it is shadowy and no camera around.
ReplyDeleteOnce she hears him going out and about, might follow. Don't think she is in any hurry though. My Miss Kitty spent some time out on her own before we took her in. When she wanted to go outside would go get in her carrier. Quite content to sit out for hours snug in the knowledge that nothing could bother her.
Ha! I bet they never leave! Why should they go catch mice, with you waiting on them hand and foot? You may have to shorten up the rations some to give them a reason to hunt.
ReplyDeleteYou know what they say - you can take the cats out of the city but you can't make them leave the feed room.
oh dear June. she does look a tad overcome. hope she musters some confidence and gets out on tour.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday with an update of Johnny and June! Hope he finds the cat door to exit and to get back in. I would use voice TLC with June.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Johnny ... progress is progress. Now as for June, beauty can never be rushed.
ReplyDeleteIr's a big step to come out. I'm in love with Johnny.
ReplyDeleteIt's already been a month! My, my, where does the time go.
ReplyDeleteJune is a stunner!
I agree with Sandra that Johnny is not feral and June is. Their eyes tell.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I can't keep my cat inside! They're so beautiful and I'm glad to hear they're getting along and enjoying each other's company. June is so lovely, I do hope she warms to receiving cuddles soon. I have a feeling that Johnny will be quite the scamp when he gets the hang of the place.
ReplyDeleteI think that June is seriously the most gorgeous cat I've ever seen.. those eyes are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI still have to call her Safira, (Italian for Saphire). But I am sure that she will explore. Just Johnny-Cat is a little more confident-typical of the male in most species.
ReplyDeleteBoth cats are gorgeous.
