In the still of the night

Our semi-feral, fearful feline waits on the doorstep for his prey.

He thinks about diving into territory unknown...

and dips his toes in the water...

...only to have second thoughts. Smooch doesn't help matters any when she catches a glimpse of Johnny from her perch on the porch.

Smooch: *bark bark bark bark bark*

It takes awhile, but Johnny musters his confidence and emerges again to patiently wait for another mouse to pass by.
I get bored and go back in the house. You don't want to see photos of squirming mice hanging out of Johnny's mouth anyway.

  1. Isn't he a beauty?
    And so's the sky!

He's good at his job, then, eh?

  2. Wow, if it takes this much out of brave Johnny to step out, we're not ABOUT to see a hair of darling June. How can she be content to live, day in and day out, boxed into a corner... sigh...

  4. Johnny is one handsome cat... i would be worried he would wander off and get eaten by a critter, not one of your critter, wild critters.. coyotes or something or eagles or hawks what ever is out there...

  5. I'm getting worried about June. I'd hoped that she'd be out in the wee hours hunting. Seems she's been in the feed room an awfully long time! Ever see her venture out?

  6. You know what you need? A game camera! That way you can catch photos of whatever is happening when you're not around to see it in person. (on second thought, do we really WANT to know what's out there going bump in the night?)

  7. What a beautil boy Johnny is.
And he's a real thinker. He's not one of the fools who rush in.

  8. Oh why not? We've seen worse things hanging out of the hens' mouths, er, beaks.

  9. It must be terribly unsettling to arrive in unfamiliar territory that's populated with huge, long legged creatures and ferocious guard dogs. He seems quite brave considering. I'm sure he'll be prowling around without a second thought before long. It looks like June is another story though. Is she still cloistered behind the hay bales?

  10. I'm sure that Johnny Cash Cat will ease himself into adventuring as will Ms. June. We have an indoor cat that only stays in one room and has since we got her....but yesterday I found her in the hallway. We were both surprised as were the other cats. "oh hello????"
Johnny is a ginger...he is just shining you on with his bashful act. Great photos of a beautiful cat. Happy weekend Ms. Carson. All the Cuckoos in the Casa

  11. I'm thinking June moves around more than we know. She just has a later schedule. Glad to hear that Johnny is mousing.
