The moonlight was so bright this weekend, I was compelled to go out and play in the dark.
I don't spend nearly enough time outside at night as I should.
I might stargaze for a few minutes when I make my final trip to the barn before I go to bed, but that's it, which is a shame
because nighttime is probably the best time to be outside in the summer – no bugs, no wind, no heat.
And now, I don't even have to worry about mice running across my path and startling me.
Johnny: Coming through...pardon me...on a mission...gotta keep the place rodent free.
I'm amazed at how quickly the rodent population has diminished in the general vicinity of the house and barn.
It's not like JohnnyCashCat is leaving a path of dead vermin in his wake – it's more like the word is out
that a fierce feline has moved in so the mice and packrats have moved to safer grounds. Amen.
Getting a barn cat was definitely the right move rodent-wise.
But that whole sermon I preached to myself about not getting attached? Epic fail.
You: I told you so.
nice and peaceful time indeed. Getting attached is what keeps me human I feel. And yes it rather the word (or rather the odour) that makes it than the killing.
ReplyDeletewe all KNEW you would fail.. love the night shots
ReplyDeleteYou are such a mush ball. Maybe some day, he will soften up and let you pet him. Your success with the rodentia is encouraging to me. I have a boat load of chipmunks who need a lesson taught to them.
ReplyDeleteYup, saw that one coming:) And you're right about being out at night, when I started working the late shift years ago and spending a lot of time out in the wee hours, a whole new world opened up.
ReplyDeleteYes, but your attempt was admirable. We all knew that with you tremendous heart that no matter you would be swept away by caring. That's one of your lovable qualities.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you enjoyed some basking in the moon light. And catching the beauty of a late spring evening sans bugs, wind and varmits.
Johnny Cash Cat looks the part of a feline with a mission. He also is what my Daddy Jack (maternal grandfather) would have called a ring tailed tooter. A keeper in the micer division of catdom. Oma Linda
I won't say "I told you so", because you could say it right back to me. We have only had orange cats, so I'm partial to them. I wonder if Johnny talks like my orange cats have always done?
ReplyDeleteJohnny working the night shift! Beautiful moonlit night. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I feel like I am there... And yes you softie you, of course you would fall for him, who wouldn't...
ReplyDeleteHas June the beauty queen cat ever showed up?
ReplyDeleteLooks like Johnny keeps to busy to miss her much.
Jo in MN
I think that the affection runs two ways, even if he is not yet showing it. Whiskers (long gone) had that same look when he decided that I needed to put the camera down and pay attention to him. He was not a snuggle cat, at all.
ReplyDeleteAs to June, maybe she didn't like her name? She never struck me as country. More opera, with those looks.
Love the photos of your night sky.
ReplyDeleteNice that Johnny has fit in so well.
How about our little girl ?
Anybody who wouldn't have gotten attached wouldn't be worth knowing.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned you've succeeded. I'm a lot more at ease now knowing you two don't have to pretend any longer... Cats will not stand by and be predictable....
ReplyDeleteEpic fails are sometimes blessings in disguise. If it took an orange cat to make you appreciate the beauty of the night..so be it. Looks like he enjoys your company. Now scratch his head.
ReplyDeleteMy feral herd has done their job well. I was apprehensive about having 8 of them (a mom and her litter) but I trapped and had all of them neutered. They don't dig in my flower garden, they don't bother my show chickens OR my pigeons, they don't even seem to bother the wild birds, but they are fierce rodent exterminators. After a year, there are only 2 I can pet (while they're eating), but if I sit in the yard long enough I'm soon surrounded (at a distance) by kitties. There is one of the bunch that I rarely see, but she's still here, as I believe June is probably still at your place.
ReplyDeletehow strange, my comment of today has come with the comment I made 2 days ago! so they don't make sense. Is it a comet in the sky in your first picture? we have all got attached already to Johnny and June, and worrying together with you. because they are "attaching" critters and they deserve our attention, don't they?
ReplyDeleteIf success means that would have furry critters and not get attached, then failure it is. How can you not get attached? Johnny and June depend on you, and you have spent the past few weeks nurturing them to aid in their attachment to your barn (and to you). Perfect relationship, with each party doing their part. The only losers in this seem to be the mice.
ReplyDeleteOf course I knew you would fail.
ReplyDeleteI would have too.
but that's one of the reasons that I love your blog.
Aww, I love the "I told you so."
ReplyDeletehahhaha..... busted.........
ReplyDeleteWhat June said....
ReplyDeleteAnd Carine is very observant.....
Little Miss M was looking at this post with me and commented when she saw that 4th pic that it looked like the Little Town of Bethlehem. And yes it does. :-)
Looking at your first pic in this post, it looks like you captured a comet, up in the upper right hand side! Great pics btw!
