It was a dark and stormy night. Not really. But it was dark, and "stormy" adds the right amount of drama to our story.
Anyway, I was in the house and Smooch was on the back porch. I kept hearing the sounds of furniture being rearranged.
I tried to ignore them, but my curiosity got the better of me. I grabbed the camera and went outside.
It was a chaotic scene...until I figured out how to use the flash.
Me: Smooch, why is the table askew and the cushions on the ground?
Smooch: Trespasser. Must find.
Smooch: He's back here somewhere, I can smell him.
Me: Maybe it's the Easter Bunny?
Smooch: Nope. The Easter Bunny wouldn't fit back here. I'm guessing a packrat.
Me: Stand back. I'm going to move the bench away from the wall.
Me: Eeewwwww. Definitely not the Easter Bunny.
you can see it's tail in the 4th picture!
ReplyDelete(nut how did the story end) (and do I want to know?)
EEKKKKKKKKKKKKK..... wheres the broom eh!! (I shout while standing on a table)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good girl Smooch is for warning you of that intruder! I think I would have been more vocal then you upon finding him, and there sure as heck wouldn't have been a picture!
ReplyDeleteAww, he was cute! Happy Easter Carse!
ReplyDeleteDid you notice you captured the elusive creature in the photo "he's here somewhere I can smell him"?
ReplyDeleteOr a smidge of him?
In the 4th picture you can see its tail below the backboard just under Smooch's elbow!
ReplyDeleteAnd den...?
ReplyDeleteAnd den...?
And den what happened?
Now, we KNOW you didn't stop taking pictures at that point! Where is the rest of the story? Is Smooch fast enough to outrun a frightened rat? Are you stable enough to shoot the action? So many questions!!
ReplyDeleteI have always thought that pack rats were cute with their big ears...except when in my house stealing shiny things and using my dishes as their own personal toilet. Then they are not cute AT ALL!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know what happened next as well. Especially since I know you do not even kill snakes.
You guys are astute - I had not noticed the tail...the perils of blogging on a 13" screen.
ReplyDeleteThe end of the story was boring - the rat ran off into the darkness, Smooch did not catch him, and neither did my camera.
He's kinda cute...Does Smooch eat them? My dog plays with them and then eats them, sooooo gross and the noise YUK. Hugs
ReplyDeleteoh gawd I'm with Theresa EH, get outta my way, I'm gone. ewwwwwwwwwwww. And such sharp eyes you have...the others. I had to go back to see the tail photo. Still ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. Good girl Smoochie.
ReplyDeleteOh yuck. Here Kitty, kitty.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, he just wanted to get warm!!
ReplyDeleteNancy in Iowa
we're astute cause we're girls!!!
ReplyDeleteThe first picture is the perfect lead in for the beady eyed ending. It's fun to see Smooch's security stances. I bet she had busy dreams.
ReplyDeleteI don't scream at snakes anymore, but RODENTS...."EEEeeeekkkkkk!" every time! :-( I don't like them and they don't like me!
ReplyDeleteWake up the chickens!! They'll make short work of your little visitors!
ReplyDeleteall's well that end's well...
ReplyDeleteI loooove that first picture! Reminds me of me every time I try to get a shot off. Seriously, I have a gillion of those! Great way to start the story too. I am glad you have Smooch to protect you! Good dog!
ReplyDeleteGlad it wasn't a skunk. Smooch is a hard working girl.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwww! Cute little thing just minding his business :-)
ReplyDeleteAwwww the Easter Rat! I wouldn't have stuck around to take pictures. I'd have run away and let Smooch take care of things.
ReplyDeleteYou are waaaaay braver than I would be, but love your pictures. I'd be screaming like a baby!
