My virtual home, this place you come to visit me day in and day out, hit a milestone somewhere in the past few weeks. The blog odometer clicked past 1,500,000 hits. That's chump change for the likes of Pioneer Woman or The Bloggess, but it seemed like a big deal at the time to me. Somebody besides my parents stop by every day to see what I'm up to? Five years of doing this and that still baffles me.
Anyway, this got me crunching the numbers and pulling out the charts and graphs and my crayons.
As we look at the graph above, we see when all of those hits occurred during the course of the7msnranch.com history. April 22, 2009, is a day that will live in infamy ... the most hits ever. A reader named Rottlady posted a link to my story about how Lyle held me hostage in the feed room on something called a news vine, and the link somehow made it's way to the home page of NBC's Today show.
Now let's look at just the past month or so of activity. Mondays are the busy days, Saturdays not so much. On average, pages from this blog are looked at about 1,300 times a day.
I have a hard time getting my arms around big numbers. I need to visualize them to help me make sense of it all. So I started thinking, what if all those people came to visit the real 7MSN every day instead of the virtual 7MSN?
It would be very crowded. There's no way the dirt road could handle the traffic, and I could never bake enough cookies or make enough coffee to serve everyone. Which is another reason why I love the internet. We can be friends and enjoy each other's company every day, but I don't have to worry about where you all would park.
i am so not surprised that your blog has that many visitors.. i wait each day to see what has happened 7 miles south of nowhere....
ReplyDeleteWow. Pretty impressive stuff. But I think summer can't get here soon enough, so you can go OUTside and play...
ReplyDeleteOH! BTW, LOVE your blog and I read it EVERY day!
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog years ago when you posted pictures on some daily equine photo voting page. Don't know if that page still continues, but my day wouldn't be complete without seeing what you and your critters are up to now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so faithful to your loyal readers. :)
I love the numbers, and you should be quite proud! Your last picture and explanation just blew my mind, and yes, guess parking would be a problem! Keep up the good work ... it's always fun to check in and see what's happening your way.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty amazing. You and the gang are a very popular and entertaining bunch. Congratulations on doing so well.
ReplyDeleteVelly interesting eh!! I like to stop by every morning with my coffee as I sit at my desk in northern Alberta as in Canada eh ;D If all of us web visitor were to visit you fer real I am sure we would bring along a dish of something or at least stop at the store for bag of chips or a bottle of wine. hey that would be fun!!!
ReplyDeleteLove to visit and see what's up with everyone on the ranch. You make me smile all the time with your commentary. My husband even will ask about "the donkey lady". Keep up the blogging!

What can I say....WE LOVE you and enjoy spending time with you daily. Hugs
ReplyDeleteIt's a great blog, Carson. It's the only one I visit on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteThere is something about it that brings me back day after day. I'm not at all surprised about your visitors. It's a wonderful place to pass the time. Kind of like my favorite coffee shop in town.
Best always,
How about we bring our own cookies?
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? You're surprised? Your blog is great. Great pictures, great story lines and very funny commentary - and we've all fallen in love with your herd... Visiting 7MSN has become my goal in life! Have a great weekend Carson.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome. Always nice to know when you've touched even one person..... much less so many!!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, I have no idea who the bloggess is and I only know who the Pioneer Woman is because of you :-)
Just read the caught in feed room post..... bad flashbacks to being stuck in a bathroom as a child..... yes, 20 minutes is loooooooonnnnnggggggg!
I don't comment very often but I visit everyday!
ReplyDeleteA million and a half page hits...Wow! And I was proud that my blog was about to hit 100,000 ;-)
Linda, Your post today is perfect for my comment: I'm a daily visitor to your blog. My mom just got out of the hospital and my "caretaking" duties are stressing me out! I come visit you and feel my blood pressure level out. Thank you and all your critters for my daily smile.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog each and every day, I lived on a 17 acre mini=farm in Floyd County Va for 25 years - had chickens, angus cattle and then Tennessee walking horses. Great life!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat if I brought coffee, cookies, AND doughnuts? ;) and new jolly balls...and a tiara for Wy?
ReplyDeleteCongrats! You make my blog feel small, wow, great stats, you must be doing blogging right! I had close to 3/4 million views with nearly 25,000 downloads before webshots met its demise. I'm your newest follower and rss subscriber...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all the visitors to 7MSN. It doesn't suprise me at all that you've captured the attention of so many. Your humor, photography, "logic of situations" and good natured view of life are all the basics of a good read every morning. I've told you I can't get the grands out the door to school unless they get to see Ms. Carson's blog. On days you don't post, we visit the archives. We love you Linda and all other residents of the ranch. Smooches and Squoozes, Casa de Cuckoo
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I stop by for a visit everyday. I always enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteLynda in Michigan.
Love that last image of us virtual friends all congregating in real life at 7MSN! That would be quite a party, fer sure.
ReplyDeleteIt always amuses me that blog readership goes up on Mondays - I'm betting there's a lot of people at their places of employment catchin' up on their favourite blogs instead of working. :)
Love your blog and your stories. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog every day for about a year, and I love it. I feel almost as though I know you and your animals personally, and wish I did in reality. I can't tell you how much I admire you, your spirit, and your way of life. It is, in a word, authentic. And that is the best one can hope to achieve.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have us all lined up. I couldn't imagine the number of cookies, pots of coffee, water, or rolls of toilet paper you would need. We would have to come in by bus loads. Where would the gang stand? I would think they would be on overload of affection. I love the stories and it's my first stop every morning. Thank you for taking the time to share your life with us.
ReplyDeleteyes happily I am one of your 1,309 visitors a day!!! Never thought I would look forward to reading about donkeys, dogs and pigs!! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteYou are like the best neighbor I ever had, have a cup of coffee, a few laughs in the morning and then split for the day with good feelings.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love all your diagrams too, plans for buildings, even showing us t he possiblity of us all meeting at your place. If I can see it, I can believe it.
Happy weekend, Linda, Smooch and the rest of the gang. Does being this popular make you nervous???
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Super excellent post. Love the numbers and graphics.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised either. Your blog is very wonderful and puts me in a happy spot-which is why I would far rather read my favorite blogs than watch anger tv or read bad news. Animals and funny writers beat all the other stuff hands down! Oh, and what if I offered to bring a bottle or two of wine or a six pack? THEN can I come over? HeeHee! Have a terrific weekend, Hugs, Meghan
ReplyDeleteMan! What a party that would be!! At least we all would have one thing in common. We love horses, donkeys, chickens, dogs, New Mexico and of course you!! Keep on blogging we love you all your animals and your adventures!!
ReplyDeleteThanks from NE Oklahoma!
These numbers are impressive, especially the unique visits numbers. I don't think my son looks at blogs, but he often asks me "What's Carson doing today?" Cause he knows I know. The 7MSN is a fun place to visit everyday.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've always thought you should print out every single blog post from the very first one, including all pictures, have it published and you'd have a best seller. Then every few years do it again. Even though I've read every one of the them, I'd still buy the book and so would all of your other readers.
ReplyDeleteone thing that is true is that you post interesting stories, you are so funny and ... your posts are so regular. 3 pleasures in one! that why I keep coming back sometimes more thatn once a day when I need a mood change. You deserve our heartful thanks.
ReplyDeleteoh, and by the way, the day we'll come, we'll rent double-decker buses!!!!
ReplyDeleteOoops! I forgot to include the Princess in my comment. Please don't tell her. I don't want to hurt her feelings! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again from NE Oklahoma!
Congratulations! You are popular because I think you touch something inside us all - you are "everywoman" in a sense. Not to mention a good writer and storyteller with a wicked sense of humor! I live vicarously through you 250 miles north, trapped in a corporate job wishing I could live on a ranch 7 miles from anywhere surrounded by character-filled animal companions! Keep up the lovely work... and I agree with a previous poster that a book of your blogs would be high on my list of purchases... KF
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! I am here most every day, too, I just don't comment alot. Really enjoy your blog and all the antics of your four-legged friends!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
We could carpool and I'd bring the cookies! :)
ReplyDeleteA sense of humor and great pictures keep us coming back...
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and look forward to hearing about you and your animals every chance I get!!
ReplyDeletePlease give all your critters a hug from me!!
