It was high noon. The temperature outside was in the 90s; inside, the windows were closed and the noisy air conditioning
was on full blast. I was working at my desk and Smooch was sound asleep in the guest room.
Or so I thought. She shouted out a three-alarm bark, and I jumped from my chair to see what was wrong.
Smooch: Coyote.
Me: Are you sure? I don't see a thing.
Smooch: I'm sure. Let me outside so I can scare him off.
We went into the backyard, and I still couldn't see what all the fuss was about,
but I'd never seen Smooch's hackles raised so high.
Smooch: I think he went thataway.
Smooch: What a wiley s.o.b. He must be hiding behind a tree.
Smooch: If you'd let me out the gate, I'd find him!
Me: Fat chance. Come back inside and I'll give you a little something to take your mind off him.
A wiley coyote is no match for a homemade Frosty Paws treat.
I think there will be another coyote there tomorrow. At least Smooch will swear she saw one!;)
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a wiley Smooch! Years ago one of our two dogs would eat his dinner really fast, then run to the front door barking the 'intruder' bark. The other dog would leave her unfinished food to join him, then he would go back to the kitchen to finish HER dinner... She never did figure that out.
ReplyDeleteSmooch you're a great watchdog. I hope you weren't just bored and wanted a Frosty Paws treat so you played your mom by "crying coyote!"
ReplyDeleteI love Smooch! What kind of a dog is he/she? And I will be making your Frosty Paw treats for my baby!

Goodness Smooch. You are the best alarm system. I didn't see it, but I know it was there. So deserving of a Frosty Paw.
ReplyDeleteHome land security needs to recuit Ms Smooch eh!
ReplyDeleteOooooohhhhh! I need to make those goodies for my two dogs. It's supposed to be 110 degrees here by the weekend. I often throw ice cubes into their water dishes and doggie pool outside.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she had a dream.
ReplyDeleteGood girl Smooch. Great Mommie Linda.
ReplyDeleteI think Smooch is the wiley one...she made out with the treat. Willow will do that too. I think she dreams there is something there to chase off.
ReplyDeleteSmooch is training you well. :)
ReplyDeleteNope, Smooch definitely smelled/heard something. Hackles are, I believe, involutary. Go girl. Keep Hank, George, Alan, Lucy and the chickens safe! (I don't worry about Ms. Wynonna or Mr. P.)
ReplyDeleteIf you've never seen her hackles raised so high...
ReplyDeleteI hope it was only a coyote!
I think in the next-to-last picture Smooch is saying "Frosty Paws?!??!" (Love how she is looking at you. Good, beautiful, impressive dog!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good dog! I am looking forward to making some frosty paws for my two-Lil Ping and Coco!
ReplyDeleteWow... she has some impressive hackles!!
ReplyDeletehugs to you Smooch. if you go to my blog and click on the tab Cooper you will find you have a cousin look alike there, only a little bigger.
