I've already witnessed George yanking it off Alan's head.
He grabs it right between Alan's eyes, yanks it down over the ears, and off it comes with the velcro straps still stuck together.
Quite amazing, really, and I try not to laugh when he does it. Wouldn't want to encourage him.
I bought enough masks this time that I can keep rotating in new ones
while I search for and find the discards in the pasture.
Surprisingly, there are very few flies to contend with this summer. Even they can't stand the incessant drought and heat.
So when Alan loses his mask George rips off Alan's mask, it's not the end of the world.
And Alan would rather contend with a fly or two just so you can admire his adorable expression.
The masks should come in bright orange or red or some color that would stand out in the pasture. These seem to blend in nicely with the countryside making it rather a difficult task to find them. Animals are quite inventive when it comes to getting rid of something on their body they don't like.
ReplyDeleteMy cat had a body harness and no matter what I did she could somehow wiggle out of it. It just seemed to slide right off.
Do the masks come in that bright neon orange you see on safety cones? It would be ugly, but you could spot them a lot easier :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen we use a fly mask I sew a strip of reflective material to it and look for it at night with a flashlight. I just stand and shine the light around and usually only take a veru few minutes and steps to find it. Not sure I would want to walk around at night in your region, though.
ReplyDeleteHow many fly masks did you order? I ordered 3 new ones. Somebody, another blogger, sent me 3 of the Cashel ones, which I really like, but they are $19.99 EACH! (even on sale)...I'm going to keep watching Horse.com and see if their price goes down any further and stock up for next summer. We didn't have a REAL bad fly season, either, but Cali has fly-sensitive eyes.

They are so funny...always up to something. Does Alan ever make it through the day with his mask still on? He has the cutest muzzle I've ever seen.
