Good to the last drop

A little bit of rain fell yesterday afternoon. Fancy that. I was very excited to use the new rain gauge...

but not nearly as excited as my water-obsessed chickens.
They made a game of catching raindrops falling out of the gutter.

Clara: I'm losing my patience here.

Clara: Maybe the itsy-bitsy spider will wash out if I wait long enough.

Me: What's that song about raindrops and chickens?
You know the one – raindrops on roses and whiskers on chickens?

Eugenia: Nom nom nom nom nom. Good to the last drop.

  2. Love these pics, the expressions on their face show their curiosity and confusion. I can't wait to raise chickens. We are getting a coop together but it is not finished yet. I am thrilled with your blog!

We have had SO much rain here in northern Alberta your rain gauge would have overflowed to many times to count in the last 5 days.

  6. Chickens can be the funniest animals. I love when mine get intent on doing something.

  7. That's just great. I never new chickens could be so cute. Didn't you want to just pour some more water down the drainpipe for them to catch.

  8. They're so serious and so patient. You'd think this was the only water on the property. Too funny.

I am glad I was not drinking anything when I read this morning. Too cute. I love Clara posture looking up into the downspout. We received some of that lovely moisture too and hopefully will get more today.

  11. You must wear your camera around your neck all the time to always get the great shots that you get! These two girls have got to be the cutest hens ever! I love their cocked heads-they are sooo smart!

  12. Fabulous chicken post. And now the grands had to know the song. I mean they are only younguns and when Shel and I burst into laughter the "I didn't get it" look panned across their little children faces.....but now they are off to summer program singing your version of the beginning...you've done it again. Two thumbs up.

  13. Your girls are hilarious! Their facial expressions (who knew chickens had facial expressions...) rival the donkeys.

  14. Hello 7MSN,
I discovered your blog a few days ago and have enjoyed it immensely. Love your story, lots of admiration for what you did and now are doing. And can appreciate what you enjoy because I live in Los Alamos. There's nothing like the skies and wide open spaces of NM, the air, the light . . . and the occasional precious summer storms. I can't find a name for you so I guess you're just 7MSN in blog world. Well, I don't even have a google identity but that will come eventually. You'll be a daily read. I'll wave in your direction when I drive to Abq. Becky

  15. Now tell the truth, weren't you tempted to stick the hose in the other end of the downspout?

  16. I like your hens' version of the song! I guess they don't know their twisted postures aren't ladylike - or maybe in the intensity of getting a drop of water, they just don't care!

  17. Fooled me; At first I thought they were really looking for a drink. Cute! It's like they found the prize in the Cracker Jack box.
