Somehow I knew not to be drinking my coffee while watching your video. My first surprise was that a snake could crawl up the side of your house. My second surprise was that he was alive after being in the trash can in the hot NM sun, but I just had to laugh when he took off and you're requesting him to come back! Bet he thought, "what's up with this lady?!?!?". Good idea with the paint though. Hope you got him and won't it be interesting to see if he comes back.
Hopefully the swallows will lay another batch of eggs? (Or do they do that?)
Excellent idea to mark the snake...in the can...before he hightails it out of there! You may have a bunch of bright pink/orange snakes in your pasture. :)
Pink seems to be the color of pest marking choice. I used to catch chipmunks and spray them through the trap. I would relocated them oh, say, ten miles from my house. I figured if I ever caught a pink one they would tell me that ten miles wasn't enough. Perhaps the reason that I never caught a pink one is that hawks are not color blind...

I won't watch this cuz it is about snakes. But if this is a bull snake, & they have found the eggs....they will also get to the chicken eggs & one will eventually have to kill him as they will continue getting the eggs. Look before reaching for those eggs....one never knows what they might be getting a hold of. Just saying.
I really enjoyed your video story this morning! It will be interesting to see if he every comes back. Herpetologists in your region might get excited thinking a new variety of snake has been sighted!

Way cool that the snakes can climb the wall, I did not know that. We are having a big rattlesnake problem in Reno this year and I'm a bit nervous everytime I take my dogs our for a walk in the hills. Just so dry here but very chilly this morning so had a great walk and the only problem was the young coyotee yipping at us. Betsy
That was so cool to see the snake crawling up the stucco wall. They will climb on anything that their scales can attach to. I feel badly about the swallows eggs. There is always next year unless they have another batch this year. I would have never thought of marking the snake's tail. It's a great idea.
I smiled at the snake on the wall, then cringed for the Swallow family, then laughed, followed by evil giggling, and finally smiled long after Mr. Snake had been released! You sure do know how to start my day!!!
Smooch is ever alert! Swallows can rebuild a nest and raise another clutch of eggs if destroyed so you may see them build it again. Hopefully the hot trash can will be a good snake deterrent.

I tried to see how many marks are on the snake pole, but couldn't tell. Now all of the cool bull snakes will want to come to be air brushed. Love hearing you talk... very Upper East of the Mississippi? Do people who are NM natives have a distinctive accent?
I am in awe at your ability to handle snake, snake pole and camera. If it was me, I would have ended up spray painting the camera lens.
And I know that yesterday's workout was effective, because my stomach muscles really hurt because I'm laughing so hard at you telling the snake to "Come Back!"

I won't watch this cuz it is about snakes.
