A wolf in sheep's clothing

You can't fool me, cholla cactus.


Just because you get all dressed up for a few weeks out of the year doesn't make you any less evil.


Sure, your bright fuscia blossoms are a welcome pop of color in the pasture,



and the inadvertent landscaping in front of the house never looked so good,



but when it comes right down to it, your prickly spines are still the devil incarnate, and I despise you.

    Such a shame that something so evil should also be beautiful. Great shots of it.... and I'm loving the color!

    Gosh, they look like tree peonies! Do the Boys and Lucy eat the flowers? The barbs on the buds look softer.

    The one good thing about the blooms is that there in no inadvertent meeting between cholla and humans or critters for a few weeks.

    Nasty things, chollas. We wacked them all down and burned them. Works.

    But at least yours have fushia colored blooms. Ours have only very pale yellow blooms. Not pretty.

    Cholla teaches us:Always be vigilant, especially wearing open-toed shoes. Always carry tweezers.Dogs can run on three legs. Never wear open-toed shoes.

    do the donkeys really eat the entire plant? i love that i can take down trees and give them to our donkey to eat, and she takes care of all the trimmings i cut when i have to cut brush back off fences. mostly birch and ash. she's even taught my horse to eat things he never touched before. have your donkeys taught hank to eat things?
