Snapper: Why aren't you outside? It's 6 o'clock. Aren't you supposed to be walking Smooch
or scooping poop or doing something productive? What the hell's wrong with you?
Me: It's too stinkin' hot. I'd rather be a slug like you and lay on the couch doing nothing. So there.
Smooch: Air conditioning...what a concept. I could get used to this.
Still, I feel like a slacker. Who's protecting the ranch if I'm in the house?
Part of me wants to do my job, but the other part of me says screw that, I'm comfortable right here on the couch.
It's a moral dilemma, and frankly I'm torn.
Me: When is it too hot to blog? I don't think we've crossed that threshhold yet, but we're getting awfully close.
How many days can we get away with indoor pictures before our readers realize we're a bunch of wusses who can't take the heat?
When will the monsoons arrive to cool off the air and bring an end to our misery? So many unanswered questions.
It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

ReplyDeleteIt's been miserable hot here too, for ages, although summer is only days old! 100's are in our forecast. UGH!
ReplyDeleteUm, I grew up in Texas. Hot is hot. There is no sugar coating it. My mom can go one better. She grew up in Texas BEFORE air conditioning. It is hard to imagine. I wish you whispers of thunder and cooling showers to bathe the land and you all!

ReplyDeleteThe southwest when it's hot must be awful, but can you imagine what it must have been like working in an office in the southwest before the days of air conditioning?
And those were the days of layers and layers of underclothing.
Aren't we lucky?
I'm a fair weather gal, without question. I am fine up to the 90 degree mark, then life gets more uncomfortable as the summer continues. Have you considered a misting system on your porch or in the barn?

ReplyDeleteCarson, the local news here just did the weather forecast for the next week. It will be either 108 or 109 for the next WEEK! No clouds. Nothing. Just heat, heat, and more heat! Ugh.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young thing in Tucson AZ in the 60's we had a device called a swamp cooler to cool the house. No, it did NOT smell like a swamp, but worked by circulating water through grass pads and blowing air through those pads...worked like a charm when humidity was under 10 percent. When the monsoon rains came in July, that put an end to shivering in the house, 'cause the humidity went up and the cooler just blew dank air around. In those days, rich folks had AC!!
ReplyDeleteNow living Mississippi and looking at temps in the 100s this weekend, but yipppppeeee, we have AC!! Did we get rich to afford this? Nope, it's just that swamp coolers don't work here where the humidity is always over 10 percent. I am so awestruck when thinking about folks who lived and worked here without cooling...we are VERY lucky!!
Hope your monsoon is on it's way...Tucson is looking at next week for some monsoon rain.
Oh, I forgot to say that no matter whatever you blog about is simply fine...indoors works for me!!
ReplyDeleteWe're 80 degrees at 6 AM heading for a high of 108. Looking forward to a trip to ABQ this weekend to cool off (We'll be inside a hotel conference room, notorious for being arctic!)
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is stupid to stay inside and enjoy air conditioning. It is proper application of resources. It is why we evolved opposable thumbs so that we could invent the air conditioner and use the thumbs to operate the thermostat.

ReplyDeleteThey're saying 105 here today and tomorrow, 108! Maybe with the early Spring we had, this is the hottest part of the Summer. The farmers here need rain for their corn!

ReplyDeleteIt's 59 degrees here right now. My feet are cold and I have two shirts and a hoody on. I had the furnace on yesterday.
I am, however, thankful for small favors: there's no rain in the immediate forecast, which means, hopefully soon, the ground will stop making rude sucking noises when I walk on it. :-)
Maybe it's time for a pitcher of those margaritas to help cool things down a bit? :-)

Southern girls always know.. that you can only take off so much clothing in the summer.. but, if you do that... and lay under a ceiling fan.. it feels pretty good.. just keep a big glass of sweet tea close by and you'll survive!!! Even one of my kitty sisters.. Sweet Sage.. loves sweet tea.. LOL... glad you can just chill out for a while...!!! Shadow........
