I took this picture of Lucy on March 24.
She was all bundled up in her winter coat:
I will never cease to be amazed by how slowly donkeys shed their winter coats compared to horses.
Hank has been running around practically naked since mid-April, while Lucy, George and Alan
have been looking like wooly mammoths up until a week ago.
Lucy, come here, darling. Let's show the folks at home how beautiful you are under that fly mask.
Ready for the big reveal? Here it comes:
*gasp*
Hard to believe it's the same donkey, isn't it?
That's my Lucy. She's definitely ready for her close-up.
WOW, an amazing transformation, and I love the Vogue cover! LOL. That gave me a good early morning chuckle!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful lady!
ReplyDeleteThats the best Vogue cover ever!
ReplyDeleteI am quite taken with the way her ear hair waves and furls.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised there's not kissy marks all over Lucy's face ... she has the sweetest expression and seems to be so huggable.
ReplyDeletemine is finally, FINALLY shedding out and looking really great under all that hair. i had no idea what to expect. she has a coat like an abyssinian cat and she's no longer grey, but brown. if i groom my horse she stands closer, and then closer, and then closer until she's between me and my horse, begging to be groomed.
ReplyDeleteThey're charming with their winter coats but so pretty when they're slick. Love her cover shot.
ReplyDeleteShe's a looker! Everyone here is now clamoring for their own Vogue cover. :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Lucy willingly wears her "ear covers." I had not heard of that before.
ReplyDeleteHA! She deserves her photo on EVERY beauty magazine. You look mah vuh lus, Lucy! You could use just a tad of lipstick though.
ReplyDeleteI knew that lady would make it on Vogue one day.
ReplyDeleteShe is beee-uuu-ttt-ful.
I think the Vogue cover is frameable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cover girl!
WOW!!! Where can I purchase a copy of that magazine eh! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a difference!~
ReplyDeleteAh, but she keeps the stylish 'bangs' in her ears. Beautiful girl! She deserves the cover of Vogue!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lucy! Doesn't love make us so clever, creative and ENTERTAINING? I never get tired of seeing your herd through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteI love it that animals grow a warm winter coat and then they look so different when they shed out. I guess it is kind of like us with our winter wardrobe and summer. Betsy
ReplyDeleteThat Vogue cover is priceless!!
ReplyDeleteShe certainly is a cover girl! What an amazing difference!
ReplyDeleteBest Vogue cover-EVER! :) Lucy looks fantastic! My little guy is finally ALMOST done shedding out...it's Arizona for cryin out loud! You think he'd be done by now! I'd love to hear the hot weather style strategies from Wynonna!
ReplyDeleteLucy looks like a completely different donkey from winter to summer. Beautiful for all seasons but a cover girl none the less. When we had St. Bernards I always felt like the brush was an extension of my arm when they began to "blow coat". Wooly mammoths but wouldn't have missed that experience of having big dogs.
ReplyDeleteLucy must be feeling much cooler now. Great fly mask and ear cover by the by. Oma Linda
She is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat Vogue cover!! Gotta love that Lucy!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I hope don't let Wynona see the latest Vogue cover!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCute Cover, bet those issues would sell out if they were real. Clever idea.
ReplyDeleteHad a good laugh at this one, well not at Lucy's beautiful appearance of course, I just loved the whole Vogue idea. And that Hank's been "practically naked" since April...:D
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you put the two photos side-by-side. That helps us to see the significant changes. Her winter coat is much darker gray. I've not had the pleasure of stroking a donkey. Does she now feel as "slick" and soft as she looks?
ReplyDeleteIf the guys see the Vogue cover with Lucy on it, will they want their own covers? What magazine? Playgirl?
Love that wispy ear hair. If only my husband's was that attractive...
ReplyDeleteLOL Leslie! I love the ear hair too. What a tranformation and I love the comparison. She certainly is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with others...would like a copy of Vogue with Lucy's face on it....What a model...hugs
ReplyDeleteLOL I love the Vogue cover. My horse was totally different in attitude when he finally rid himself of the winter coat :D.
ReplyDeleteI love her in both coats. Sure, the summer look is sleek and sexy, but her winter fuzz makes me want to let her sleep in my bed. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen winter arrives do they put on their winter coat at a slow pace also?
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! And the filtering ear feathers stay, and the eyelashes sweeping like a broom - no wonder these beautiful animals can live in the desert.
ReplyDeleteQuite the transformation! My horse is always the last one to lose his winter coat. I may have to try taking a similar before and after shot.
ReplyDeletei see she has applied some sort of "hair product" to those ear hairs....strike a pose, dahling!
