I posted about Wynonna's squeaky condition on Wednesday. That very afternoon, I was sitting with the chickens discussing the matter.
Eugenia: Why is it so quiet in here today?
Minnie: Did the pig leave town? I don't hear her.
Clara: Maybe she read the blog and clammed up so she could get out of going.
Eugenia: Please tell me you didn't squirt WD-40 in her mouth.
It's the strangest thing. I have not heard Wynonna squeak for two days. For three weeks, the noise coming out of her mouth got louder and louder, and we were all getting stressed out. She was so loud that egg production fell off! Then as soon as I posted that I would be taking her to the vet, she shut up. How weird is that? Maybe a bad tooth fell out, maybe she logged on to my computer in the middle of the night and decided to keep her squeaks to herself. Whatever. I'm keeping the appointment and she will have her mouth examined, whether she likes it or not.
I'll try to update my twitter feed as today's adventure progresses. And of course you'll be able to read all about it, probably on Sunday. Assuming I recover by then.
Well, now I'M very curious as to what has caused this, too. I wonder if she had a food pellet or something stuck in her snout that finally dislodged? Loose tooth is also a good guess.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the video. Different sound than usual I'm guessing. I wouldn't put it past her that she knows somethings up and is keeping the squeak to herself. Maybe she flossed? Good luck getting her to the vet, hope it all goes okay.

ReplyDeleteYou did warn us about skin crawling, the sound gave me goosebumps anyway. I think you're right, it sounds like maybe a tooth ((shudders)). I hope the trip is uneventful and you get some answers.

ReplyDeleteOh Carson, I wish I'd heard this earlier. That's an anxiety noise that pigs make - we hear it all the time from pigs coming into the potbellied pig sanctuary I volunteer with, and once they are settled it goes away. It's kind of like us grinding our teeth. I suspect something was upsetting her - perhaps a rodent or avian intruder in the barn, or Mr P scouting around the outside at night.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible her anxiety was due to something internal like bad teeth or a stomach ache, but usually they will show a loss of appetite when they are ill, not anxiety noises.
Here's hoping the vet visit went well.

That is quite the squeak! Do they laugh at you like they do me when you call the vet? I can just picture you saying "I need an appointment, my pig is squeaking!" lol

That is most peculiar! I do hope she's back in top form soon and that she just had a frog in her throat (figuratively speaking, of course). I know a frog wouldn't get past the chickens...

Was checking your twitter reports all day. Glad she's home and doing well. Hope the anesthesia wears off soon. I'm sure there's nothing quite like watching a pig with a little wobble on. Poor girl.
