Lucy and I have a new favorite trail – we call it "The Roller Coaster." It runs parallel to the dirt road that goes out to the highway. There are 20-some bar ditches along a two-mile stretch that divert rain off the road and into the adjacent rangeland. Last Sunday, I took our Flip cam and recorded every stinkin' time we rode down one of these bar ditches and up the other side. And then I edited them together. And found a silly little song about a rollercoaster to use as the soundtrack. And added subtitles so you wouldn't be too bored watching Lucy and I climb in and out of 20 bar ditches. We had a great time. Hope you do, too.
Oh, I just LOVE Lucy's ears! What a wonderful ride, although I did get a little seasick! How fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! I am now owned by a mule, partially due to the long time antics of your long ears, especially Lucy. Come see Josie at

I think I need a faster interent connection. It was like watching flip pages go by in herky jerky motion.
ReplyDeleteLucy looks like a fun ride in spite of my machine. :)
Great video. I love her "walka-walka" gait in the end. You can really see it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful world with the caption "We brake for cows".
ReplyDeleteLoved the ride. I really liked following the shadow speed.
Best always, Sandra
i got a bit of motion sickness but LOVED the ride, especially the peeks at the vast mountain range in the distance (those got my equilibrium back.... and I just wanna rub on those ears !
ReplyDeleteI had such a good time! Thanks for letting me come along!
ReplyDeleteTears are falling this morning...the joy I have for you and Lucy, out there riding together (words don't express)...Bud, please hand me another tissue. I'm sure you will many, many more rides. Maybe some day we will be able to ride together. Lucy will most likely go into shock if she ever saw Lickory (my black mule) again. He was not very nice to her. Anyway, thank you again and I NEVER get tired of you and Lucy out there riding. Hugs to the kids
ReplyDeleteI am one of those wishing I was on Lucy's back ... riding the roller coast range! Love your videos and I've never heard that Roller Coaster song before ... ever! It was perfect as is your Lucy! What a great girl she is!!
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful! What a cheerful way to help us start our day! I've gone down and up many a little wash on my horse and could remember how that feels, leaning back and forward as you trust your mount to cross.
ReplyDeleteLoved the shadow gait, too. Thanks!
Love watching the world go by through the frame of Lucy's ears! The shadow gaiting is incredible. Lucy is one very talented girl.
ReplyDeleteFor a totally alien landscape to yours take a look at my flip camera trail ride. Much smaller ears. A bit more green. I'm not as great as you in song selection - I liked the Red, Gold and Green refrain.

I think it's wonderful that you included your appreciation to Estella in today's blog. Enjoyed the ride and music. How do you always find the perfect song? The shadow bit at the end is really neat, too. I get the feeling that Lucy enjoys the rides as much as you do.
ReplyDeleteI stayed with you for the whole ride! I didn't see my shadow there, though. Love Lucy's ears. It's been soooo long since I was on a horse, and I've never had the pleasure of riding a donkey. Please think of me a little bit next time you're riding!!!
ReplyDeleteNancy in Iowa
So awesome.
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome ride and video! And I was humming. :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm another who wishes she was along for the ride. Enjoyed the video and the song - I'm still bouncing along behind those wonderful Lucy ears!
ReplyDeleteYay, I got to go for a trail ride this morning (with you and Lucy) and didn't spill a drop of my coffee! That's one smooth-gaited donkey gal.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ride! I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos. Just made an offer on a new horse for me. Would love a Lucy, but I don't know anything about donkeys and don't know anyone around here who knows anything (the right things...) about donkeys, so luckily found a nice, quiet QH. Looking forward to posting a riding video of my own soon!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteThat was lots of fun. Put me on the list of people who wish they could go for a real ride with Lucy.
ReplyDeleteThat was so much fun! I always love getting a peek at your day and the beautiful country around the 7MSN. Lucy just impresses me as such a strong peaceful donkey. I enjoyed your ride.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun ride! Lucy is adorable! Thanks for putting this together to share!
ReplyDeleteBuns of steel workout for donkeys!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading every post (started with the Oct 26 post to here and will continue on) and watched the entire video :) ...even hummed the last few bars as instructed.
ReplyDeleteI've been busy with guests this past week... Well, ,now I'm off to see the finished chicken coop! :)
