Funny how a drop of rain can change one's outlook on life, at least temporarily.
We were all starting to worry that Mother Nature had forsaken us. When it doesn't rain for nine months, you start thinking all sorts of crazy things. What if it never rains again? Will the whole state go up in smoke? What if the pasture never sprouts? Will I be able to find enough hay to buy? Will we have to
*gasp* move? This is the stuff that has been keeping me awake at night.
So when it finally rained on Sunday, I kept taking pictures. I wanted to be able to reflect upon every steamy, humid detail just in case it's another nine months 'til the next storm.
The rain that finally fell was enough to kick-start the pasture, amen, and I'll swear it's possible to literally watch the grass grow, which means Lucy and the boys are very happy, which means I am very happy, too. Wishing all my friends in Texas and Arizona and every other drought-struck state that the rain and this ripple effect comes their way, too. Soon. Like now.
Wise of you to take all those pictures . . . for reassurance purposes. Eventually it'll always have to rain.

I hope you continue to get some rain maybe not everyday but at least once or twice a week to green up the pasture. We have certainly gotten more than our fair share of rain in July.
ReplyDeleteI think the Phoenix/Scottsdale area had a bit of rain this week. That's per my cousin that lives there. She was ecstatic! Wishing you more rainy days SOON!
ReplyDeleteYep, here in 'Burque we've had three nights of rain. One real soaker and two others that were pleasant and refreshing. The 7 yr old asked if this was our rain for the year....I had to tell him, I thought we might get a drop or two during the state fair but yeah. He looked at me and said, well we better get outside and get watered then......and so we did. That's kid logic..one we should all ascribe to in my old self opinion. Happy rain Carson. The Olde Bagg
ReplyDeleteThe rain always seems to bring things back to life....starting fresh AGAIN. We had a lovely storm last night and this morning the green is GREEN (weeds, too) and the air is so crisp and clear. LOVE IT Well, have a good day and give the kids a hug for me.

ReplyDeletePlease pray for rain for us in Texas. It's been months of no rain and consecutive triple digit temps and high humidity. It's really not fit for life right now, and you can feel and see the frayed ends of everyone's ropes. We went cross-country yesterday to visit a friend in the hospital...it was dismal to say the least, as we passed ranch after ranch with all the stock tanks dry and cracked. Fields, as far as the eye can see, were crisp with unharvested corn and sunflowers. My heart breaks for all the animals...I don't know where they are finding water to drink. Even the rivers are barely running with a trickle. This could continue until November, which is unthinkable, and if we have another summer like this one, we will be the Sahara.

We need that rain so bad. Phx got rain, but we seem to get avoided every time. Of course this weekend I have to work, so surely it will rain.

Agree agree! Southwest KS is drier than anyone can remember plus 100 degree temps every day now for weeks. They need rain so badly it hurts. Here in northeast KS, we had some blessed rain over the weekend, enough to help our field corn along to making ears.
