Waiting for the bugs to go to bed

We're still trying to adjust to our new summer schedule. Come supper time, I close the boys and Lucy in the corral
and put on everyone's fly mask. They eat for a few hours, then we hang out waiting for the bugs to go to bed
so that I can remove their masks and turn them back out in the pasture.

I hate not being able to see their faces.

The new routine is making everyone moody. One minute Hank is throwing his weight around...

...the next minute he's playing stick with Alan...

...or George. Hank usually never plays stick with anybody.

I have no explanation for what's going on here. It's part of the general weirdness in the air.

All I know is that as soon as the sun goes down and the bugs go to bed,

our lives go back to normal.

  1. I don't know... Looks like Hank is headed to the 'dark' side. Is he, *gasp*, turning into a burro?! :-)

  3. We suddenly this week are experiencing cooler weather and the bugs have simply gone vamooose. No idea where they are hiding but that's totally okay with me!

  4. I can't help but giggle when I see them in their masks...but don't tell them I said that. Bugs are pests, aren't they...we're fighting them too in MS...I think our mosquitoes this year are vampires...yeesh!

  6. Beamer loves a rousing game of stick too. He throws them over the fence and stands there waiting for me to throw it back in for him . So he can do it all over again.
Love the cigar look on George.

  7. Ahhh but the fringe on their masks is so "hip"! LOL The bugs or the masks - would make anyone weird! Continue to enjoy your photos and the personality they catch.

  8. The flies around here are awful too.
Just like humans, looks like Hank gets cranky from too much time being bothered by flies and silly neighbors.

  9. HI Linda, I highly recommend "Fly Predators" which are some sort of bugs that eat fly larvae. Let me know if you need a source for these essential little critters.

  10. Are the bugs normally that bad there? I don't ever remember hearing you talk about that!

Are you getting any of the smoke from the fires in AZ? I know the one in NM/CO is too far East of you. We have been enjoying the smokey haze from the fires. Many it's the full moon and it buggy with summer coming.

  12. Nobody really likes change. I was just going to tell you that June mentioned the Full Moon over at her place, but I see she's already been here. *smile*
