Smooch had been trying to sniff out something in the hose roller for the past few days.
Smooch: Come out, come out, whatever you are...
...or I'm coming in after you!
By now, I was as curious as Smooch was about what might be lurking under the lid. I didn't hear
any hissing or rattling and was fairly certain I wouldn't be putting our lives in jeopardy by taking a peek.
Ready, Smooch?
Smooch: That's odd. I don't see anything.
Me: Let's unroll the hose. Maybe he's under it.
Don't step in the puddle. Looks like we might have scared the pee out of him.
Oh wait ... maybe the hose is dripping. Nevermind.
Smooch: Where could he be, mom?
Me: Beats me. I'll watch from this side and you go around the other side. He's got to come out sometime.
Me: There he is!
While Smooch scurried to the other side of the box,
the mouse made tracks over the hose and behind a table.
the mouse made tracks over the hose and behind a table.
I didn't have the heart to tell Smooch that she missed her opportunity.
Don't worry if you can't find him now, Smooch. I have a feeling he'll be back.
Smooch is really intense in her search, but how sad that she missed the mouse make its exit. Oh well, like you said, another day/another time!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great photo story.
ReplyDeleteSmooch stories make me think about my Marly dog, whom she resembles so much, in so many ways.
Smooch has a VERY good nose! If she smells something you know she's not lying!
ReplyDeleteDon't you feed that dog? She was tasting the intruder in her head already! I think you could piclk her up by that tail in the first pic. Thanks for the smiles, on a day they'll be few, as I let my old superhorse go. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the mouse thought of his ride inside the hose roller. Wheeeee...... :)
ReplyDeletePoor Smooch! She can smell it, but can't find it. How did you ever drag her away from the hose roller?
ReplyDeleteDon'tcha feel so safe with a dog around ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was sure you were going to find a snake in there trying to mate with the hose.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a pointer in that first pic! LOL... love your stories Carson.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking snake, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! Love Smooch's picture with her tongue licking her nose....anticipation!
ReplyDeleteThat little mouse must have had a wild ride as you unwound the hose!
I don't mind a good game of hide & seek, as long as everyone gets away with their whiskers in tact. *smile*
ReplyDeleteThis was very cute. She's licking her lips or chops or whatever they are called. LOL! Smooch is such a beautiful dog.
ReplyDeleteBased on that second to last photo where Smooch is licking her chops, I'd say she was planning on making a snack out of that little mouse!
ReplyDeleteGreat sroty-telling....as usual!
Oh dear! Loved your "drawings" on the photos. :) LOL
ReplyDeletePhew! Wish my mouse visitor was outside, mine was dead in my basement!! EeeEEEEEkkk!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, he'll be back...or you'll find him in the grain tub sampling some leftovers.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing... and I'll bet the mouse is laughing too!
ReplyDeleteDi
Fabulous photos! You must carry your camera around with you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a riot! Love the mouse tracks.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to show my daughter. She is a big Smooch fan.
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that! There is never a dull minute at the 7MSN
ReplyDeleteBest always, Sandra
Poor Smooch - foiled again! But I love your mousey drawings!!!

Long live the hose mouse!
ReplyDeleteAren't dogs fabulous? This reminds me of a few months ago..I turned on the porch light one evening, my dog went to the smoker and started nosing around. I started hearing squeaking noises. Didn't know if it was the wind blowing tree branches or what. She had her head under the legs of the smoker and behind in the air. When I lifted the lid, there was a RAT in the upper water/charcoal pan! I quickly put the lid back on. Got dog in house and turned light on giving it a chance to leave. Haven't left lid on smoker since! And haven't used it.......
ReplyDeleteawwwwww..... cute little thing! Sorry Smooch missed her catch but glad mousy kept her freedom!
ReplyDeleteHaaaa! Such a clever girl!
ReplyDeleteFrom the small mounds around the hose holder and the corners of your doorways, it looks like y'all have been having some wind lately. If I were there, I'd totally want to sit in those little piles of New Mexico dust.
:-)
Too cute!
