Things that go thumpa-thumpa-thumpa in the night

As big as the New Mexico sky is, you'd think these guys could find a better place to fly 
than directly over the 7MSN. But no. 

I was out at the barn feeding the boys Sunday evening when I heard them coming. I kept looking in the direction of the noise but didn't see anything. Minutes passed, the noise kept getting louder, I still didn't see anything, but I went to get my camera.


When they got into my air space, I had plenty of time to snap pictures ... they weren't moving very fast.


What could they be doing and where could they be going on a Sunday night? 


They turned southeast as soon as they passed over the barn. 
I'm convinced they use my shiny metal roof as a landmark. I can hear the conversation now...

Chopper Pilot #1: Let's go buzz that roof. 

Chopper Pilot #2: What for?

Chopper Pilot #1: I hear there's a pair of cute asses down there.

    TOO funny ... I got a BIG kick out of your conversation between the pilots! LOL

    We occasionally have our local medical helicopter fly over and once Wally hears it he goes nuts, running in circles and barking. No air rights allowed here, and as it goes on, he feels he's accomplished a great feat!

    They fly over my house quite often, day or night. I always figured they were using heat seeking devices on my wood stove in the dark of night. Actually, I think I'm in direct line to the base and it's an open valley but it's more mysterious wondering if they're locking in their targets. ;)

    You do have some cute ass at your place.

    Too funny! I live near two helicopter pads and sometimes they hover over my house waiting for clearance and it literally shakes my entire house. I can't imagine what a military helicopter would do to my poor little house!

    When I was little we lived near Fort Bragg, NC and they would fly so low we could see some of the soldiers with their legs hanging out! They would throw candy to us kids. I'd be willing to bet your imagined conversation is right on!

    What do the animals think of all that racket?
    My horse was afraid of a grocery bag in the pasture, but never afraid of low flying (noisy) helicopters. I always wondered what the thought process was regarding fear in equines.

    CeeCee, Smooch starts to bark when she hears the thumpa-thumpa, everybody else usually ignores them. This pair was so low, though, that the boys did glance up from their hay.

    Cool choppers. We have F-16's and Hueys flying over our area most of the time along with the news or flight for life choppers. I think the animals get used to hearing the noise. It doesn't seem to bother ours at all.

    I grew up on a high hill in Missouri, and early in the mornings military jets would skim our roof and break the sound barrier. Pilots having fun in the middle of nowhere. It went on for years and then finally stopped. It took years off my life I can tell you.

    Dialog sounds about right. They have to log so many hours of air time, just probably meander all around.

    I'd pick a pretty day instead of a snowy one myself, given the choice.

    Being in flight lines for a military base and president, the chinooks have been a common sight. They always flew in twos or threes and you could hear them approaching in time to get a good look at them. I always wondered how well they could see me & my property with their special equipment!

    Too funny! They sure do make a lot of noise though. We have Boeing nearby...about 20 miles from here...they make the Apache helicopters. Those are on test runs over us quite often...I keep worrying one will crash right into our mountain cause they fly so low.

    Southeast? Maybe they were headed to buzz my barn roof. Remember Sunday evening in the military is just like Monday morning or Wednesday afternoon. ;-)

    Are these Military Helicopters?? I remember you writing about them before but I don't remember if you said they were Military...! The Helicopters here are smaller and most of them are Police and TV Stations. But we get these Military ones sometimes and they are much bigger abd louder...They seem to be taking the same oute each time, too. Very Annoying Noise, isn't it?
