Attire: Sneakers, shorts, tank top, long-sleeved shirt, fleece-lined vest, baseball cap...should have worn long pants.
Observations: There were many fresh piles of cow poop to hop over, but we didn't see any cows. Small flocks of little birds were flying in and out of the tall grass. If they know what's good for them, they'll stay away from my barn. A woodpecker was making a racket pounding on a fencepost. He'd better stay away, too. This time next month, we'll be walking home in the dark. And it will be cold. And we are not looking forward to it one bit. Except for the warm fires in the woodstove. And the bread baking in the oven. I really need to do a post about this bread recipe. (Read about its awesomeness at that link, or go to this link if you want the exact recipe.) Seriously, it's changing my life. If I could survive on bread and eggs, I could cut back on my trips to the grocery store by 75%.

ReplyDeleteI sure do hope you are going to give us that recipe. I went to the link and saw the process for making the bread, now I just need the proportions of the four simple ingredients. We can always eat bread.

Gorgeous! The one thing I really hate about winter is...well, the cold, of course...and the rain...that too...but what I started out to say was, the darkness. It wears me out.
ReplyDeleteI have a No-Fail Bread recipe that I love. I just need a day to prepare it, is all. Lots of kneading and punching down and rising and kneading...etc. But, oh my goodness, yummy. I bet your house smells fantastic!

ReplyDeleteGazelle - Given my chickens' propensity to eat anything that crosses their path, including small birds, I'm just trying to keep these little ones out of harm's way.

ReplyDeleteI still prefer to think the bird-eating Chicken FOUND a litle dead bird though and didn't actually murder it herself.
