Five years ago today, I moved to the 7MSN Ranch.
Before it was the 7MSN, it was a patch of dirt with a view.
Every weekend during construction, I would drive down to see how much had been accomplished during the week, and every visit ended with me saying, "I can't believe I'm going to live here." Five years later, I'm still in disbelief that I get to live here. How lucky can a girl get. This post tells a little bit more of the 7MSN backstory, but usually what most people want to know is how the place got its name.
When I bought the land and told people I would be moving, the first thing they'd ask was "where is it?" There wasn’t a town or landmark nearby, so I would tell them “It’s 7 miles south of nowhere.” I said it often enough that it stuck.
For some reason I thought you were there longer, but I loved the construction pictures and the explanation of 7MSN.
ReplyDeleteConstruction on our home started 8 years ago this Sunday, and, like you, we visited every week end to check its progress, and also, to this day, cannot believe how lucky we are to live here!
You have a wonderful life on your ranch, and I feel lucky to get to read about life on the 7MSN ranch. So thank you for sharing your stories with us, you deserve every ounce of happiness on the 7MSN ranch :)

Perfect name for a perfect home in a 7 miles from nowhere location. Being away from the rush of city life is so eye opening. I often wonder why we waited so long to get away from it.

ReplyDeleteI truly admire you and enjoyed reading your past stories this morning. I wish that I could just pick up and move to the country; but with children and my husband's job it is just not feasible. I do have moments when I dream of running away by myself when my youngest son is on his own! :)

I used to work with a very quiet reserved lady who had never left the State of Oklahoma, literally, and had never been married even though she was close to 60.
Some girlfriends talked her into a trip to Hawaii. She came back, put all her affairs in order and moved to Hawaii and never looked back. I was so proud of her.
I admire people who go for their dream.
Would it be possible to post more photos of the construction of your house? Is it New Mexico Territorial style? Did you have an architect?
