Alan gets out of line

I went out to visit the boys at lunchtime yesterday, to find a particularly aggressive group of flies taking up residence on George's belly. They hovered around a small scrape and refused to leave. I placed my hand over the scrape for a few minutes to give George some relief, then explained to him that, as much as I'd like to, I couldn't stand there all day, so we'd best head back to the barn to get some ointment to put on the scrape. He agreed, and we started our trek down the path to the barn.

Hank took notice of our departure, decided there might be food involved, and followed along behind George.

So there we were, me walking backwards taking pictures and George and Hank moseying along in single file.

Alan came racing up from behind, indignant that we had left the pasture without telling him.

He charged right past Hank and George...

  1. That is too funny how Alan had to be in the front of the line .. hope George's belly is ok and fly free now.

  6. Well, did they get a treat after going to the barn? Or just ointment?

  7. Cathy R, they all got treats once we got to the barn ... though Alan was third in line for that.

  9. I think you should draw little hearts pointing to Alan's back feet off the ground in the second last photo....

  14. I love Alan. He's a smart boy for not wanting to walk behind and look at everyone's hind ends.

  16. too funny.....when my sister and I and another friend used to trail ride, there was always the horse that "had" to be in front and then the others fell in place. My horse always enjoyed bringing up the rear. He has vision issues (I believe) and so was so much calmer as he could see the others in front of him.

Your herd all look content in their spots! Herd dynamics are so cool....

  17. I guess you noticed how they stayed on their marked trail, except for Alan when he passed!!
I have nice grass in my fenced back yard and it is amazing how the dogs can keep their feet in their established trail! I've had some rough days at work lately. Thanks to you, your boys & girls for bringing a smile each day. You are blessed to work at home.

  18. Ermmm...

Is Alan "charging" there? ...or "levitating" his way to the head of the line?
