Did you know Smooch was a shelter dog? I adopted her from the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary when she was a three-month-old puppy. That was back on January 28, 2006.
She was a 19-pound sack of bones at the time...
...but I fed and watered her...
...and she blossomed into a 36-pound lean machine.
She doesn't have a fancy pedigree, but my little shelter mutt is the best darned ranch dog I could have ever hoped for.
that's awesome. My Bali was a rescue dog. They seem to know they were rescued and are eternally thankful and loyal for it. What a cute puppy she was! I know she knows she's lucky.....but she'll never know the whole extent of it..... The 7 MSN Ranch.....what a great place to be

All three of mine are rescues also and they are great dogs too. Yeah! for rescue/shelter animals!

ReplyDeleteOne of the first satisfactions of adopting a rescue dog is watching them fatten up and fill out and get HEALTHY. I'm not sure it's just the food we give them, either. I think they fatten up on love.
I've never seen Smooch's baby pictures ... aaaah, what a cutie. She sure has grown into a beautiful rancher dog!

ReplyDeleteI'm all about rescue too and my poor husband knows it all to well. He lives in fear of me bringing home another cat! And I live in fear of what would happen if I did! LOL!
The only kind I'll have! Every animal I've ever had has been a rescue and I've had birds, dogs, cats and fish.

ReplyDeleteMakes me wish I had a blog so I could contribute to the cause. Bogart, is our rescue dog. He was 12 months(?) old, 59 pound black lab mutt with lots of ribs showing but so full of love. Fast forward 3 years, he is now 75 pounds and still full of love.

Smooch is one lucky girl! :) Harley and Suti are both rescues at our place. Have you ever tried to figure out what Smooch's makeup is? She definitely looks like she has Basenji to me. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Shelter animals all the way. My two dogs and my daughter's dog all came from the same shelter. My late, great mutt Dinah came from another shelter. We enjoyed her company for 10 years. She was the best dog I could have ever wished for.

ReplyDeleteMy adorable Pom was rescued from a horrible environment. She was tiny, just 6 weeks old, covered in fleas, anemic and very near death. Eight years later, she is still my pampered fur baby.
ReplyDeleteI knew there was something extra special about Smooch, apart, i.e., from everything else -- a shelter dog. We have 3 rescues who form our household security staff and 1 of our pasture dogs is a rescue as well. Each of these dogs came from some horrible circumstance: One was a puppy left in a yard without attention, barely any food, and unattended severe medical problems, until we saved her; another was a stray, abandoned undoubtedly because he had Parvo, which he beat; and another, our LGD, a beautiful girl was saved from scavenging in a parking lot and turned over to a rescue, she had heart worms, to boot. Anyway, it was a great day for you and Smooch when you rescued her and she's paying you back with love and loyalty!
