Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and enter today's giveaway. All you have to do to win an $80 gift certificate from online retailer csn|stores, sponsor of today's contest, is correctly guess how many bales of hay are left in the barn. How hard can that be? (It only took me seven tries to figure it out and I was standing right there. I hate counting hay!)
Here's a side view, if that helps:
And here are a few hints:
1. When the barn is full, it holds 294 bales.
2. There's enough hay to last us through mid-August, give or take a week, and depending on how much it rains, and when I can let the boys out in their regular pasture.
Now wasn't that helpful? Get out your calculator or take a wild guess. Just be sure to leave your answer in the comments by Friday night.
The prize: An $80 gift certificate at csn|stores.
To enter: Guess the number of hay bales left in the barn and leave your answer in the comments. If more than one person has the right answer, a winner will be chosen at random from the correct entries. One entry per person, please.
Contest closes: Friday, May 28, 7:00pm Mountain time. The winner will be announced Saturday morning.
Number of winners: One.
Those of you who guess the wrong number have to help me unload and stack next year's supply. Kidding!
It's kind of early to be figuring stuff out (I have trouble counting my coffee scoops at 5 a.m., and that's only 4), but I'll give it a go ... 48 bales left.
ReplyDelete41
ReplyDeletehmmmm, 124. that is about as wild as I can get this early in the AM ;-)

I hate when it's the end of the season and all that order has become chaos in the haystack.
ReplyDelete78. If that's not enough to last until August, I'll bring over some more.
I never win anything but 102 is my wild guess.
ReplyDeleteYou've already made me focus more in the past 10 minutes than I usually do in a full day and I'm STILL confused! I'm going to guess 79. This is a fun giveaway!
ReplyDelete107
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing 64 or I should say my husband guessed. I hate math.
ReplyDeleteI am in the same predicament..hoping to have enough until mid June.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna say 71.
I guess 42.
ReplyDeletemami2jcn at gmail dot com
using some creative math, I came up with 57. Actually, all my math is creative. That would be opposed to accurate.
ReplyDeleteI am going to say 78
ReplyDeleteAll I can think about is you having to stack that hay by yourself. Kudos. My guess is 93.
ReplyDeleteI'm saying 56 but I'm hoping I'm wrong so I can come help stack the new hay!!!!
ReplyDelete49
ReplyDelete43 bales. I tried to get one of the four-leggeds to count for me, but they are in on the secret!
ReplyDeleteI am guessing 43. That hay can be tricking. :)
ReplyDeleteKeep those guesses coming! I will be away from my computer most of the day and unable to hit the "publish comments" button until late this afternoon - so don't fret if your guess does not appear until then. Thanks for playing along!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess 77. If anything that might be one or two low, but you said only one guess per person, and 78 and 79 were taken (and I don't like to share!).
ReplyDeleteI'm down to six and a half, but my herd are now out on pasture 24/7, so that plenty for hay bags in the trailer or the occasional overnight in the barn. Fortunately, my supplier is right across the road, so if I need a few more, I can just go grab them. (What a blessing!) And we'll be cutting again next month, and put next year's supply in--so it's a good thing last years is almost gone--easier to move outta the way for the new!
75 - and please don't make me count anymore - I would much rather help stack!
ReplyDeleteI say 67 and now I need a coffee!
ReplyDeleteI can't really tell how big each bale of hay is, and I have very little experience with hay, but my wild guess is 232.
ReplyDelete75
ReplyDeleteUhm..... 85 bales of hay?
ReplyDelete125
ReplyDelete43? THat's my guess.
ReplyDeletebluebonnye1961@yahoo.com
I gonna say 60 and I think I will pass on bucking hay, thank you. I tried counting and that didn't work as I kept losing hay bales. Good luck everyone.
ReplyDelete62.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to guess 73 bales. I tried to count as best I could!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...since someone else picked my guess of 64, I'll go with 66 bales.
ReplyDelete55
ReplyDeleteMy guess is 62 bales.
ReplyDeleteI guess 51.
ReplyDeleteI guess 35 and I think you should keep double checking your count until you come up with that number.
ReplyDeleteBoy, did I waste too much time on this one! You would think being a music teacher I could count really well...
ReplyDeleteMy best guess is 110 bales of hay on the wall, 110 bales of hay (sing along with me...)you take one down, pass it around, 109 bales of hay on the wall...
110 is my final answer!
I guess 62 LOL I am probably way off!
ReplyDeleteFun Linda! I'll say 165.
ReplyDeleteOK...my first question would be, "Is this a trick question?" Wikipedia says most barns have barn doors --- we've all heard the expression, "Your barn door is open." Right? So does this agricultural building have doors? Nope. Trick question.
ReplyDeleteOTOH, if we do call it a barn, and maybe the doors are open, then OK. I guess 72 bales of hay.
But then you ask...is this really hay?
Oh, nevermind...I never win guessing contests anyway!
i guess 94
ReplyDeleteUhhhh....mmmmmm...gee, let's try 77.
ReplyDelete83 bales of hay left!
ReplyDelete62 for me! Fun contest :) Saw it on Facebook today.
ReplyDeleteI think there are 79 bales left.
ReplyDeleteI'm estimating 62
ReplyDeleteI would say 32.68.
ReplyDeleteLe .68 really gave me a hard time...
95?
ReplyDeleteI'm saying 49...
ReplyDeleteI am going with 57--tried five times and came up with amounts in that area! More hay than I have right now; down to four bales and friend is out of round bales. So, now what?
ReplyDelete39 !!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I came up with 55. So I'm sure that's wrong! lol
ReplyDeleteHummmmm....52 bales of hay in the barn~...oh...tried again, but I am gonna go with the 52!
ReplyDeleteFUN....!
KK
Okay, so I cheated......my son made the calculations for me.. He says, 82 and that's good enough for me. He is the smart one in the family anyway!
ReplyDeleteI'm like the other one above that would rather stack them instead of count them!
Well, we tried scipherin' this and came up with 64 bales.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how embarrassed we will be...
69 bales?
ReplyDeleteum, I'll go with 57! =)
ReplyDeleteI guessed 61 this morn but couldn't find it in the list. Maybe you haven't got to it.
ReplyDeleteI'll guess 39...
ReplyDeleteAnd, since people are saying it -- I'd rather count them than stack them!

My husband says 110.....so we will go with that.
ReplyDeletexomecha at gmail dot com
I'll guess 76.
ReplyDeleteI got 78.
ReplyDeleteI will guess 77.
ReplyDeletewhenever my sister and I see hay when we are out somewhere (one sees hay often in Indiana)...we always say "HAY!" gotta love it.
73 is my guess before I saw everyone else's. And really.....if I lose, it would be great to come out and help you stack hay. I know it is really hard work and not fun if it is your own.....but sounds good to me and then my 3 year old could get them all messed up!
ReplyDeleteI count 66. And I'm right there with you! I hate counting hay!
ReplyDeleteI'm going with 90, I don't think it's been guessed yet.
ReplyDeletedftrew(at)gmail(dot)com
I figure there's 84 bales in the barn. That's 83 for the animals, and one for down the back of your shirt.
ReplyDelete73, but what do I know about hay
ReplyDeletePure evil...
ReplyDeleteI say 66.
No clue, but I'll guess 57...
ReplyDeleteI really think it's about 93 bales....wonder how close I actually am though...
ReplyDeleteStab in the dark..... 73
ReplyDeleteSome poetry on the May 27 post.... day hay say.....
52 ....what the hay!!
ReplyDelete124 bales. :)
ReplyDeleteI am throwing my hat in the ring with a guess at 43 bales.
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking - we say 77 bales!
ReplyDelete59
ReplyDeleteUmm...based on what's left in my barn, subtracting pi from the square root of the hypotenuse of a rectangle divided by 2, adding two burros, one horse and several other domestic animals...I guess, and this is only a semi-educated guess:
ReplyDelete51 bales of hay on the wall.
Love the contest!
I'm gonna say 78 and cross my fingers. Then I'm gonna go take some Tylenol from all this staring at the screen...
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say 72 bales.
ReplyDelete(Why am I wasting time like this when I should be working?) 75 bales left but I'm too late with that answer even if it is correct!
ReplyDeleteI think 78.
ReplyDeleteCappy
WV: calobe Holy calobe that's a mess of hay!
Good grief, you should have been a fly on the wall to hear Don's and my discussion, bantering and discussion over this. :) We're going with 86.
ReplyDeleteMy husband helped me come up with a guess 74
ReplyDelete82...........My final answer
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing 70.

ReplyDeleteI am guessing 61.
ReplyDeletesylviamcghee@cox.net
I say 60, but my husband is the master counter and stacker at our place. He re-stacks our hay ALL the time an activity that I cannot quite understand. Looks like you could use his help!
ReplyDelete51 bales
ReplyDelete81 bales
ReplyDeleteI'll guess 72.
