The operation was a success

You all sure had some good ideas for dealing with yesterday's soap opera. I was all set to go looking for the turkey baster in the back of the junk drawer. Alas, an evil and immovable plastic screen stood between me and my destination. I was forced to perform dishwasher surgery.

Once I got the door off and the soap compartment dismantled, it was a simple matter of flushing, rinsing and repeating ... then putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. There were a few tense moments when the pieces didn't seem to fit, but I'm happy to report that the operation was a success, suds did not pour out onto the floor, and I don't have to wash dishes by hand tonight.

I'm not sure which part of this lesson learned makes me the happiest - the money I saved on a service call or being able to add dishwasher repair to my résumé. I won't let this new-found skill go to my head though. From now on, I'm buying dish detergent in a color other than blue.

  1. HURRAY for you Carson! It doesn't seem like there isn't anything you can't handle, and if I were you I'd be happy on BOTH accounts .. money saved on a service call AND being able to put dishwasher repair on your resume! You rock!!!

  6. Good for you. The one time I actually called a repairman to come work on an appliance he didn't know much more about than I did.

  7. Great job. It ended up being more involved than I would have thought. Glad there were no leftover parts when you finished. I have actually taken a picture of say the back of the television so I can put each wire back like it was.

  13. Fantastic! Good addition to the resume, but even better idea to just avoid the situation again and color code your detergents ;-)

  14. I love a happy ending! I would have just wheedled Ted into doing it if it had happened here, but the only dishwasher we have is my two hands!

  17. You're a braver soul than I. Or maybe that's, 'cheaper'...anyway...no matter. WELL DONE! Whenever I face a daunting handyman I ask myself, "Linda would be able to do this." And, then I call the plumber. *grin*

Dirty lots of dishes tonite & celebrate.

  22. Thought of you last night at 10:30 when we were removing the ice maker, so we could remove the back of the freezer section, so we could replace the thermostat, so we could stop using the garage refrigerator as our primary unit--and save a million dollars on repairs. Thermostat: $20 delivered in less than 24 hours, Ice maker back in operation (Free as a result of finding the kink in the tube when we pulled the fridge out from the wall), no service call to Handyman who dug into the repair after a full-day's work so he wouldn't be leaving me for 3 days with no fridge in kitchen. (So I have to empty muck tubs for him today!) Yea for DIY'ers!
