Twelve days ago, I posted a story about Qwaden, a little cowboy with a big heart. If you missed it, click here and read it now. I'll wait.
I left a few details about Qwaden out of that post because I didn't have all the facts. Then I did a little research. Qwaden was adopted by his New Mexico parents when he was a year old...from a Siberian orphanage. Want to read an article that will melt your heart? Click here then come right back, because you won't believe what happens next.
Great. Now that you're caught up on this amazing little cowboy and his even more amazing family, the story continues...
Wednesday afternoon, I'm sitting at my desk, toiling away, and I get an e-mail from an associate producer for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. It read, We saw pictures on your site about Qwaden's Heart Foundation Benefit Roping. Do you have the contact information for this foundation?
I about flipped over in my chair. Near as I can figure, the CBS news folks were googling for stories about "little kids with big hearts" and they happened upon my post. I e-mailed back the newspaper article that had a phone number.
Last night, I got an e-mail from Qwaden's mom, thanking me for my post and telling me that CBS News had contacted her because of my website and she hoped great things would come from it.
Then this comment appeared on the original post today:
You did such a great job with this story. Let me tell you he is the most inspirational lil guy you could ever meet. You can't help but fall in love with him, his family, and their entire story. I don't know if you knew it or not, but that first picture of the two guys roping is Qwaden's dad heeling and his nino (god father) heading. Qwaden's mom told me to check out your blog. I laughed and cried at the same time. Thank you for featuring this story and capturing the essence of Qwaden, he's a real cowboy--heart, mind, and soul!
If I hear anything about when a story about Qwaden will appear on the CBS news, you can bet I'll let you know.
