I got an e-mail last week about the Ray Hunt Memorial Clinic, A Tribute to the Legacy of a Legend, in Ft. Worth on February 27 and 28, 2010. I've been thinking about going ever since. It's only 756 miles from here. Ouch.
You can click here for more details, but a bunch of Ray's students (including Buck Brannaman, Martin Black, Peter Campbell, Tom Curtain...the list goes on and on) have been invited to demonstrate how they work with a young horse. They were chosen and are being honored for their dedication to the horse and to Ray's legacy. Far from a colt-starting competition, each presenter gets 45 minutes to work with a horse they've never met and will be critiqued by a panel of judges and the audience on the basis of who best employed Ray's methods and teachings. And the winner gets ... are you ready for this? ... Ray's saddle. Yowsah. The opportunity to watch all these guys (and one gal - Lee Smith) at one event is almost more than I can stand. The website does mention the possibility of a DVD being produced, so purchasing that will be my plan B. But plan A, a road trip to Ft. Worth, sounds like way more fun...except for the 756 miles part.
What an amazing opportunity.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably grab a SW flight for pretty cheap.
Wow. I want to go too. Lee Smith lives not far from here, we've been to her place to watch Ray couple years back. What an honor.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I'd really like to see that. I bet it's going to be a good one.
Well I do believe that you are closer than me! I am 1956 miles from there. Oh this looks like total fun to go to. SO I guess I will have to opt for option B and get the DVD. Hope they make one. Otherwise your gonna have a lot of blogging to do! LOL
ReplyDelete"Do Ft. Worth ever cross your mind?"
ReplyDeletePretty frequently, actually, but I live in Dallas, about 45 miles from where the clinic will be. I've already bought my ticket, and am quite excited! I'll try to write at least a few detailed blog posts about it, as I know there will be many people who would like to attend that won't be able to.
What part of NM are you in? My mom has family scattered throughout NM. I think Albuquerque is the only city Southwest flies out of. And you can't fly southwest to the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport, only to the smaller, Dallas Love Field airport. But, you could probably get a ticket from Albuquerque to Dallas Love for under $150.

Like Leah says, an amazing opportunity! Hope your plan A works out, but heck, plan B doesn't sound too bad either.
ReplyDeleteGirl, we live in Ft. Worth, it is not that far, and if you make it here....I want to meet you!! Would love to give you the grand tour and visit.....it is a short...ahem....not so short one day drive...easy!
ReplyDeleteJust think of it as 50 or so trips back and forth to town!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds very cool! How much is the clinic??
ReplyDeleteAll I needed was a little encouragement from you all to kick me over the edge...I've been online trying to put together the best airfare/hotel/car rental package to make this trip. I haven't pressed the purchase button yet, but am –> <– this close.
ReplyDeleteIf it crossed your mind... that means go. If it never crossed your mind, you wouldn't be thinking about it. Go!
ReplyDeleteReceived our calendar. EXCELLENT! Thank you.
$250 price tag for one ticket is steep, But, It would be awesome to go.
ReplyDeleteBut I think I'll be in the DVD category myself.
Or, just a one day drive over and a one day drive back.
ReplyDeleteYou kind of need to do it so you can report to all of us.
Go for it. You know you want to. When will you get a chance for this again? A DVD is nice but it can't compare to the live version.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you have to go. Other people, in February, will be taking off to the Caribbean, but no, Fort Worth is where it will be AT!
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way, you won't have to haul a horse, right? Just yourself and you're so easy to haul, right?
Start lining up the critter sitter NOW young lady!
It sounds like an awesome trip! Go ahead and click that button!
