A late summer walk around the block
I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer, but it seems I have no choice in the matter. I'm rolling out of bed a little later each morning, wearing long sleeves to do morning chores in the cooler temperatures, and running out of daylight by 7:30. Here are some pictures from last night's walk around the block. The quality of the early evening light this time of year does help compensate for the fact that there is less of it.

As always, gorgeous photos! We're just starting to get that fall feel here (which still looks like 90+ degrees and thundershowers - just less humidity!) Funny that various people all over the place are noting the start of fall all at once, just in varying degrees.
ReplyDeleteThe late summer golden light is very becoming to Smooch -- and actually to everything else that grows. It does feel like fall (when the temperature is less than 90 degrees), and it smells like fall with green chile roasting. I'm watching the tops of the Sandias -- when the golden Aspen leaves become visible, we know we're there.

Nothing like following a happy pup out on a walk, with her tail waving like a flag. I like Smooch's 'badge of office', as well. I've been noticing the shorter days as well. We've been blessed with an unusually warm, dry summer, however, we're heading into several days of the grey skies and rain that we're known for up here in the Pacific Northwest. Personally, I hate it. Interested in having squatter on your property...? I don't take up much room...

ReplyDeleteI sooo don't like the shorter days, no sunlight to play in after work and doing barn chores by lamplight ugh. I do agree about the quality of light though, it is quite undescribable here on the coast and I am witness to the most fabulous sunsets over the water for my drive home.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We're having cool nights and gorgeous sunny days. The geese are gathering in their big flocks. I can hear the crickets singing in the field out back. Fall is definitely here.
ReplyDeleteDVM's Wife, I used my 50mm 1.8 for these. I shoot in aperture mode most of the time, with the lens wide open.

ReplyDeleteI am also noticing the shorter days, which I really don't mind for now, and the cooler weather here is oh so nice. If it all stayed the way it is now I'd be happy, but that sure ain't gonna happen! Ooooh well ....
Gorgeous, 'specially the last one. Yup, it's fall here too. The light is fading fast, too many mornings in the 40's now. The vine maples are orange, a sure sign more cold and wet is to come.
ReplyDeleteIn San Francisco, summer is just starting: late August through early November is warm, no fog and summery. The summer months are our winter! In Sonoma, it's just hot, hot, hot. Your difference must be the altitude.
ReplyDeleteWe had our very first hint of Fall, just last week. I woke up and it was 68*! It hasn't been 68* since early May. It was amazing how hopeful it made me.

Sonia, the ridge you see behind my house is called Chupadera Mesa - it's about 2 miles away.
