A fond farewell to a fashion favorite

O long-sleeved, two-button-pockets, fitted-but-not-too-tight, cotton chambray shirt with the buffalo-nickel buttons, you have served me so well these last five years. You protected my arms from the bugs and the sun and the brush in summer. You layered over and under and inbetween in winter. You kept my cell phone and point-and-shoot secure in your pockets.

You survived weekly washings in the hardest of waters, and now your fabric and threads are dissolving before my eyes. I wish you would have lasted longer...your only fault really.

I will save your buttons and sew them to your replacement, if I can ever find it. I've googled hither and yon, and do you think I could find a suitable substitute? Not yet. But that is my quest – to find a new shirt just like you, then buy a dozen of them so I never find myself in this dilemma again.

  1. I started buying two (or more) of the clothing & shoes that I really like and fit me well. It's a tragedy when I have to bid my favourites a fond farewell.

BTW...your comment over at my place made me smile. I know you're lurking around even when you don't leave a note for me. In fact, I'll share a little secret with you...It's a great form of feedback for me when you DO leave a comment, because then I know I've written something that has touched you in some way. You have unwittingly set a bar for me to reach, so don't change on my account. You just keep being you.

Much love to you & your herd,
    Carolynn

  2. If that's the extent of the fraying, send it to me and I'll keep wearing it! :)

  3. I have a shirt that looks very much like this one! I haven't been able to part with it yet, even though it is missing a few buttons. I just can't say goodbye yet...

  5. There are certain items of clothing that I also buy double of for fear when the first one 'dies' I will have another to wear while searching for it's future replacement. Yes, there are just certain things that work well in everyday life and it's hard to say 'good bye' when the time comes. *sigh*

  6. when I find a pair of shoes or srticle of clothing I like, then wears out, I never can go and find the exact same thing again, never.

  7. OMG! Does this mean my Dickies barn coat is ready for the graveyard? NO, I tell you, NO! Until someone steals it or I loose it, it will stay hung by the backdoor (if only for nostalgia sake).

  9. It's funny how most of us tend to do the same thing...buying doubles of favorites that fit well. I wish you luck in your quest for the next loved shirt.
