The wild horses at the weekend's BLM auction were penned according to age and gender. The yearlings were the most curious and least fearful; the geldings were playful and goofy; and the mares stuck together in what could only be described as a chorus line. It's almost as if they were gossiping about the two-leggeds walking by.
I've never been much of a mare person, but I was totally captivated by these wild beauties. Part of me wanted to comb out their manes and polish them up, but the longer I examined their dreadlocks and watched them watch me through their peek-a-boo forelocks, the more I appreciated their no-maintenance style.
Of all the mares, this is the one who stole my heart...
...probably because she looks like Lyle's long-lost sister.
Wish I could get my hair to look as cool.
Wow, those manes! Are they even repairable, or do they have to be cut and start from scratch?
ReplyDeleteThose are really some of the prettiest Mustangs I have seen, in terms of delicate features and expressive eyes! I love the blue roans for some reason, they've been calling to me. So how many pictures did you end up taking of the Mustangs overall? Hundreds, I bet! ;)
These pictures are beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing. They turned out so nice!
ReplyDeleteThey are beauties, alright! Lucky thing you went there without a trailer. I especially like the last photo. Those two look like best friends, don't they? Absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful pictures, I cant wait until you find the loose heard south of you!! looking forward to the pics.
ReplyDeleteI think they are beautiful and so wild looking. You are right about that beauty looking like Lyle. She is lovely. I had to laugh at the first photo.....that girl in the center with her ears laid back looks a little pissed.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful Mustangs! I have always wanted to adopt and I know someday I will! You take beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThey are all beauties ... I love their big eyes. I guess every Mustang was sold by the end of the day?
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have an eye for photographing horses. Great job.
ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeous gals. I had that urge to want to comb their manes, too, but you're right, it's what gives them their wild beauty. Great pics, as always.
ReplyDeleteThey are all gorgeous!!! Such a vibrancy in their eyes. It would have been very hard for me to leave without one.
ReplyDeletethey are all sooo beautiful, those eyes so deep, you truly can almost feel their essence through the photos, what a feeling it must have been to be there just quietly sitting with them.
ReplyDeletethe unspoken communication between them is also incredible, and yes love those manes
She has a very pretty face!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many went to kill buyers. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful girls - and I wish I had those eyelashes! May they each have a wonderful future!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a mare person, and what beauties you have there! I love the light grey, she has such a kind eye. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteI hope they all find good homes. They are so beautiful and expressive. I like mares; the ones I've known have been very bright and loyal.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those mares did a nice job of posing for you. I love that last picture of the one horse almost laying her head on the other horse's shoulder.
ReplyDeleteThis herd has some incredible horses in it! Their eyes are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat mare you picked out is gorgeous...look at that mane and forelock! Maybe someday...huh?

Steph, I'm going to be having nightmares over those pictures! Thanks for sharing the link...I think.
ReplyDeleteNow, Linda, you leave George and Alan's manes alone, you hear? :) :)
ReplyDeleteThat mare myth is just that. A myth perpetuated by cowboys. I've had mares and geldings since I was 13 years old. I'm 58. Mares by far are smarter. They can be your best friend or your worst nightmare. The outcome is up to you.
ReplyDeleteLiz
I am still amazed that you managed to resist coming home with at least three of them - so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous girls! I love all the mares!!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous girls, I'd love to adopt a mustang (well, brumby!) one day!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, sorry I'm so far behind!!!
