Just 'cause you're following a well-marked trail
don't mean that whoever made it knew where they were goin'.
It's easy to see the things you're lookin' for.
The trick is to see things you're not lookin' for.
When a running horse gets to the edge of a cliff,
it's too late to say "whoa."
Nature gave us all something to fall back on,
and sooner or later we all land flat on it.
When it's your butt that's about to go flyin',
try to have more common sense than pride.
Go ahead and choke the horn and claw the leather.
When you get bucked off, the easiest way to explain it
is to say you dropped your hat and got off in a hurry to get it.
I love these sayings! I'll have to remember them when the need arises... :)
ReplyDeleteOh, he is so cute! Aren't cats funny? I have 4 of them and they are so curious and playful!
ReplyDeleteNow that's very good advice and really amusing. Did Deets actually fall or did he jump? I'm sure being such a cool cat, he'd say, he meant to do a flying dismount off the fence that way.
ReplyDeletewriteup and photo's are funny, great that you took the shots so quickly together.
ReplyDeleteArlene, this was a fall, not a jump. And it was all my fault, I'm ashamed to admit. I was out taking pictures and Deets decided he didn't like walking in the snow, so he jumped up on my shoulder. (He's part parrot, you know.) I backed up to the pipe fence to unload him, and when he tried to walk along the rail, it was too slippery.
ReplyDeleteI certainly do hate to have a good laugh at Deets expense, and I'm sorry, I just found these pictures so amusing! I'm glad that he's ok though ... seems like in the last picture he's off for more adventure!
ReplyDeleteToo funny, poor Deets!
ReplyDeleteI just checked out your blog and your photos are fantastic! and the scenery where you live is beautiful.
The Park Wife
Cats are so cool, the way they can twist and land on their feet! Great pics, as usual.
ReplyDeleteAwww that was good! Poor Deets, you have captured him on camera in the most awkward moment, lol. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the "choke the horn and claw leather" lol. Been there, done that...
OMG! That photo of Deets hanging upside down was too much!
ReplyDeleteHe was probably spitting invectives at you, wondering why you didn't put that damn camera down and come over to help.
So, did Cowboy Deets climb back up on that pony?
The body language in the last photo, was hilarious. Me, no I just decided to get down, and walk away, of course I did! I love cats, they have such amazing attitudes.
ReplyDeleteJen
Now we need to see a picture of Deets in his hat :)
ReplyDeleteTracey
absolutely fantastic photos and words of wisdom... there is nothing like catattude!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great series! Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
ReplyDeleteCats are so cool. I love the little prints Deets feet make in the snow.
ReplyDeleteThose are great- photos and quotes! I'll try to remember a few as I'm about to choke a horn!
ReplyDeleteI did stuff like that all the time as a boy but didn't have the recovery cool that cat does. (Plus I usually hurt myself.)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo set. Thank you.
Deets would like you all to know that he meant all that to happen just that way, thengewveddymuch.
ReplyDeleteThere was not one moment's loss of control; he was simply providing a photo op for his mom.
Cats, he adds, are never not surefooted.
Ooops! Poor puss, how undignified to get caught on film! At least it was a nice soft landing :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a VERY impressive series of photos...the first one makes me dizzy, even though I know he's only about shoulder high! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood timing. Cats are the best at getting themselves out of dodgy situations with such panache.
ReplyDeleteHa Linda that is great. I love the way he is just walking away in the end like nothing happened.
ReplyDeleteOh so funny for us...not so much for lil' Deets...but what a set-up!!! Such a bad mom ;~) Excellent capture on film though!! The series and the poetry went along perfectly...great post girl!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Deets, I could just see that story unfolding! ;) Fun way to add the quotes. Sometimes animals do seem to really show embarrassment!
ReplyDeleteYou're a wise cowboy and a great photographer. I love the way the cat looks like "Yep, I meant to do that" in the last picture.
ReplyDeleteGreat.
Dan
Wow - great picture sequence..and such wise words! It looks like Deets totally managed to recover his dignity. Look at that haughty departure! lol
ReplyDeletehaha!
ReplyDeleteCats have an air of "I meant to do that" that is amazing. Nice sequence of photos!
ReplyDeleteI bet he just thought he would 'hang around' for a while. Hehe, great shots!!!
