The weather in New Mexico this holiday season hasn't been all that bad, considering what most of the country has had to deal with. But try telling that to two burros who've hunkered down in the barn to stay out of the cold, cruel wind. They're a little bored.
The novelty of an empty pail wears off after awhile.
Alan decides to work on his gate-closing skills.
Hank comes along to see what his little buddies are up to.
Think Moses parting the Red Sea.
Alan gives up on the gate and moves on to the cone,
but now George doesn't want to play.
I'm so bored, mom!
It's ok, hon. The winds will die down soon and life will go back to normal.
Well even if they are bored, they seem to find small things to amuse themselves. Hank looks so clean. Ours are just covered in mud.
ReplyDeleteOh, poor burros! Bad weather is constraining, isn't it? I would like to put my face inside Alan's and George's big furry ears!
ReplyDeleteFrom this vantage point I have a better understanding of your corrals as they relate to your house. You all can keep an eye on each other from inside/outside, can't you? If you're inside, do the equines ever stand and peer in at you?
Arlene, if Hank looks clean, it's only because the wind has been strong enough to blow off all the dirt.
ReplyDeleteJune, do they ever! Now that the pasture grass has died off and they're relying on me to feed them, they line up and stare into the windows about a half hour before every meal. Guess that would make a good picture, but I'll have to wash the windows first.
"...but I'll have to wash the windows first."
ReplyDeleteNaaahhhhh. Think of the dirt on the windows as cheesecloth, and yourself as Doris Day's photographer. :-)
OH, they are absolutely adorable, as usual. I hope they can soon get back out to their big pasture.
ReplyDeleteWe had some anticlimactic excitement here today. Daughter and I were untacking Cody and the Big Bay in the barn aisle and Rafer Johnson decided to mosey in and take a roll. He laid down right behind the Big Bay's rear, rolled, got up, bumped into Bay's hock, laid down on the other side (there wasn't room to roll all the way over!) and then got up again.
Lucky for us Cody and the Bay are pretty low key and not all that concerned about rolling donkeys!
Ahh poor guys, they certainly look as if they are itching to get outside again.
ReplyDeleteThose guys just steal the show! Thanks for sharing the wonderful critter antics at 7MSN. Wishing y'all the best of New Years!
ReplyDeleteHarmony,
Janet & Shiloh
Yyup...my goats are the same way..they can see inside my lving room window and when they get bored or hungry, they start calling my name!! You would think with the way I can keep an eyey on them, the predators wouldn't stand a chance, but thesse lovelies think they are makin' a new friend !!
ReplyDeleteThose two are the mouthiest burros I've ever seen. They get into everything, don't they?
ReplyDeleteCute lil buggers though :)
Great photos and story! I understand cabin fever--have early symptoms already but am not so sure it's about the weather.
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI swear burros are half dogs...they are always getting into stuff or just playing with each other to pass the time...cute!
ReplyDeleteCute........LOVE the "I'm so bored" picture!!
ReplyDeleteLinda you never fail to make me smile with your photos. Thank you. I needed that tonight.
ReplyDeleteI love the "I'm so bored mom!" picture, and the fun "Elf Yourself" video you created of you all!! Hope your holiday was merry....happy new year too, Linda!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, Alan and George have greatly amused me this morning ... I just love those guys! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI do check out your weather forecast in the margin and amazed at the winds you have, making your 'feels like' temperature go way down there! Whew!
Your little guys are so cute! I'd love to add a burro to our little ranch one day. (Linda, did you receive your earrings yet?)
ReplyDeleteAww! I love looking at them. They are so freaking cute.
ReplyDeleteYo! I'm back. :o))
ReplyDeleteLove the poem and the playful delivery. That really was a sweet and thoughtful gift.
I'm glad to see your herd is doing well considering and that they're still playing nice in spite of feeling frustrated and bored. The next time you talk to George & Alan, you can let them know that the horses where I work have been stuck inside their stalls for a couple of weeks now...now THAT's enough to drive anyone stir crazy!
P.S....thanks for the kick in the butt. :o)
Oh, those beautiful, beautiful boys. Those pictures are so wonderful, I can practically smell that wonderful donkey smell.
ReplyDeleteWhat I wouldn't give for a flat piece of property with no snow right now...sigh. I hope spring comes soon...I'm ready for my new batch o' burros! :-)
Awww...why are your pet's so darn cute??? I love how Hank commands attention. Maybe he can come to my house and help me out with the kidlets??? LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, great post and great pictures. I'm sure the little guys will find plenty to do - they're pretty bright.
ReplyDeleteDan
I think it's so cute how they entertain themselves. Have I said before that they seem practically human??!
ReplyDeleteHey! I think I recognize that bored look....on Jasmine, on my dogs, on myself!:) Great shots!
