Late summer squall

The New Mexico monsoon season is winding to a close. We're now into the rain-on-my-parade season. It coincides with the State Fair, followed closely by the Balloon Fiesta. Storms will move through in an attempt to dampen the festivities.

If you've never been to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, it should be on your bucket list. (Think 1,000 hot air balloons ascending around the same time, filling up our famous blue skies). Hotel rooms and flights sell out far in advance, so plan ahead. It's always at the beginning of October. Rancher Woman would offer up her guest room, but you'd have to leave here at 3 a.m. to get there.

If you ever do come to New Mexico, please plan a detour to seven miles south of nowhere. The coffee's always on.

  4. And if they left by 3am your guests would miss Wynonna's Porcine Tribal Ceremony, which doesn't start until 5:30am. hahaha!

Love the Balloon Fiesta! And the State Fair. Two unique and wonderful New Mexico Fall traditions.
(And the smell of roasting green chile and pinon smoke from fireplaces. mmmm!)

Rancher Woman, if you plan to do either, don't forget to stop in to the Laughing Orca Ranch on your way. We're less of a direct route for you, I know, but a much prettier drive. (especially if you blink your eyes shut while driving through Chilili.....oooh! I'm such a meanie. hehe)

And I'll even make you fudge brownies for breakfast! :)

Ya know, last night while talking to my stepmom was the first time I've ever hear the term 'Bucket List'. How clever!
I may need to make me one.

One thing I think I'll add is 'coming back to the 7MSN to help you look for those unique painted petroglyphs'. :)

  6. Gorgeous photo! Can almost smell the rain. Rancher Woman, I do plan on taking you up on that offer at some point! The Southwest is my favorite part of the states and plan to do a trip down there again in the next couple of years....

  8. Hey, those are both great ideas, although I'd only want to go to the Balloon Fiesta if I could go up in one of those beauties. Maybe I could talk the pilot into drifting on over the the 7 MSN Ranch and dropping me off there...from a spot as close to the ground as possible, of course.
