Live, from the beautiful double rainbow stage in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico,
we present Burro Ballet, starring George Baryshnikov and Alan Nureyev.
Get ready, boys. The music is about to start. George, let go and get in position!
The curtain rises on our stars, posed in a tender burro embrace:
George takes hold of his partner...
...and they jeté across the stage. The crowd roars its approval
and our dancers make eye contact with an adoring fan.
Bravo! Bravo!
We hear the crowd gasp as Alan moves in for the extremely difficult head butt/chest lift:
Both dancers leap into the air with exquisite timing and grace:
George executes a deep one-legged plié:
And the curtain falls on the closing pose:
After a standing ovation and three encores, the famous dancing burros exit the stage door to greet their fans and sign autographs:
OMG, I am ready to pee my pants over this one!! What a hoot!! I am lovin' these burros more and more each day, and Linda, the photos are simply outstanding!!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing to capture the rainbows and the dance all at the same time;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and a wonderful exhibition of life.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand hardly any of the dance terms, but it didn't matter.
Well done in all aspects.
Dan

ReplyDeleteWhat a work of art! Who needs Lipizzaners when you have donkeys! Beautiful...I could almost hear the music and applause!! :)(did you have to put in a special request for the double rainbows for a backdrop?) :)

What an exquisite performance!
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots! It's not fair that you get all those brilliant colors in your photos. And the double rainbow - really not fair. But your burros, Baryshnikov and Astaire could become stars!

ReplyDeleteGeorge & Alan Fan
love the pictures LOve the dance and rainbows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletemy kids are argueing that there is no difference in burros and donkeys... can you set them straight??
Great photos! Love the Ballet of the Burros too, a very talented pair. I see stardom in their future. Would love to have a calender of these guys.
ReplyDeleteArlene! So glad you're back! We missed you.
ReplyDeleteLaura~peach~ you can tell your kids that donkeys and burros are really the same animal, but 'donkey' typically refers to the domesticated version and 'burro' refers to the wild version – hence the Bureau of Land Management's Wild Horse and Burro Program. George and Alan are both BLM burros.
And to all of George and Alan's fans, thank you, thank you, thank you. We've set the barre pretty high with this performance and will try our best to continue to provide the entertainment you've come to expect from us.
Beautiful photos as usual. All they lack are tutus.
ReplyDeleteAHHHH thank you... now my son can rub it in to his sister that he was correct :)
ReplyDeletethey are beautiful critters!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE your blog!
Oh my. That was one of the most wonderful sequences of donkey pictures I've EVER seen. And being an ass-phile for nearly a decade I've seen a LOT. I smiled and grinned ear to ear all the way through your perfectly wonderful narrative. I wish mine would not always immediately stop playing when I appear with a camera. They then come stick their nose in the camera, I have TONS of donkey nose shots. Really, congrats on your talents with photography and story telling. Would it be possible to use one of the photos as a personl picture to hang in my office?
ReplyDeleteForVirg - a donkey blogger, too.
Virg, thanks for stopping by, and for your kind words about these pictures. It's always nice when another ass-phile appreciates the beauty and wonder of my longears, well, not MY long ears, but you know what I mean. Feel free to print your favorite for your office - and thanks for asking.
ReplyDeleteGeorge and Alan are beautiful looking donkeys, really healthy and happy looking. They look so cuddly. Great series of photos by the way, and you made it really fun :)
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great post! I am so glad I happened across your blog today. Great pictures and I love the donkeys!
