...ranch livin' is the life for me.
Remember when every speck of the ranch was brown and the clouds over the mountain were smoke?
What a difference 7" of rain in six weeks makes.
Hank and Lyle each got the total spa treatment today. I washed off layers of fly spray and mud on top of more fly spray and dirt. And underneath all that were shiny, sparkly horses.
George and Alan? They just got brushed. Oh, how they hate getting wet.
The chances of Hank staying clean beyond today are slim to none, so I'll post one more shot of him at his shiny best.
They must be in heaven with all that green grass!
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me when our dry lot dirt paddock (that way on purpose) turns into decent grazing in the middle of summer if we get rain. Where does the grass come from? It's literally bare dirt, trampled many times daily by 4 horses and a little donkey.
I think you're right - ranch living IS the life for you!
I've been meaning to ask you if you've ever checked out the Australian TV series MacLeod's Daughters. I am getting in on DVD from Netflix and am in the first season (there are 6 or 7 and I believe it's still an active show).
It's about two estranged sisters whose father dies and leaves him his huge ranch in the Australian bush. One has worked it all her life and loves it, the other one is a city girl who comes to love it. It's got horses and cattle and cowboys and it doesn't sanitize reality much. You might enjoy it at the end of a day. :)
so beautiful.....after the rain!
ReplyDeleteYou are truly blessed!
ReplyDeleteBillie, thanks for the tip on the MacLeod's Daughters series. I haven't seen it. I'm a Netflix user in the winter - I will add this one to my list. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty and green! Well, Hank, Lyle, George and Alan look pretty but not green :)
ReplyDeleteI just had to comment again. I had some time today and used it wisely looking back through your blog.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I did. I enjoyed it so much. I am so happy for you that you have found your place in life and are so happy, and that you share it with us :)
Wow, everyone looks lovely!! I really never thought of New Mexico as very green. I never have been there when it has been green and lush.
ReplyDeleteTracey, what a lovely thing to say. Thanks for taking the time to read through my ramblings.
ReplyDeleteIt's rained nearly every day for about 6 weeks here in Wales - and this is supposed to be summer! Thank you for reminding me to appreciate the lush green beauty of my homeland. I really enjoy your blog and the great pictures of your animals.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of a beautiful place and some beautiful animals. Our sage is greening up nicely in Corrales, but we don't have as much grass as you do.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Dan

Beautiful baby.
ReplyDeleteHave I ever mentioned that I love round, happy, horses????? Hank is...well I guess he was...looking mighty sleek and glossy. The 7MSN sure has transformed with all of that rain. Can't say that I minded it the other way though :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks so clean amongst all that green! Hank's paint coloring is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI am bathing my horse Wednesday in preparation for my trip. But he never sparkles. All that roaning just washes him out and diffuses all the light or something. Oh well! ;)
Oh yes how fast some rain can green up things. I love how fresh and clean they all look. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThe contrast between Hank and all that green is lovely!
ReplyDeleteBaby Doll has been out all the time the last week, too. Her striking black and white paint colors are beautiful set up against that bright green backdrop of all our green grass, too.
I really should take a photo, but she gets so annoyed with me when she sees my camera, and either slips behind a tree, shows me her butt, or walks directly toward me. haha So, I think she's a little camera shy.
That photo with the dry brown grass gives the impression of one of those old antiqued photos.
Wow! Was it really that dry here just a few weeks ago?
New Mexico is the Land of Changes.
