What an adorable picture :) All four of my girls drink that way...perhaps they are burros deep down inside :) I love your herd...they are beautiful and so unique!
I've been reading and enjoying your blog for a few weeks now. Figured it was time to actually say "Hi!". I enjoy reading about all your critters and the wonderful life you live.
Linda, I have no idea how I found your blog but I love it and I've decided to stop lurking and leave a comment now and then. There is a part of me that really wants to be there on a ranch with the animals, too. Your gorgeous pics make it looks so appealing! Thanks for a great blog!
My horse has to stick his foot into his tank first, then ducks his nose into it and then he'll drink. We had a golden retriever who would drink out of the toilet and, as soon as he finished, he would dunk his whole head into the toilet water and walk off with water dripping all over the floor.
You've inspired me. I need to take a picture of my hound drinking. I've never seen anything like it. He practically submerges his entire head to get a drink. Great shot just the same.
hello...found you through egghead's blog and the burro picture grabbed me! I've got 3 donkeys and 2 burros and I noticed the exact same thing about their drinking...cracks me up every time I see it. They'll take a long drink and then walk away with their tongues out. Very cute picture!
That nose just begs for kissing! Funny little tongue!
Baby Doll is silly when she drinks, too. She bends her head down, nods her head back and forth, with her nose in the water, until at least several quarts are splashed on the ground (no she's not interested in water conservation) and then delicately parts her lower lip, like a scoop and slurps the water.

ReplyDeleteGeorge and Allen. I love it, the names are perfect! What a fun picture.
ReplyDeleteAwww. How cute. I'm sure there's a good reason they do this, know only to them.
ReplyDeleteOh that tongue sticking out is adorable. Sweet!

Annl and Jen - thanks for coming out of lurkdom! We love visitors. Stop by often - the coffee's always on.
ReplyDeleteDan, your horse's water routine is outrageous. I hope there's a picture of it over on your blog somewhere.

Love this blog and your wonderful photos! All my donkeys "suck tongue" when they drink! Too funny.

ReplyDeleteMy old horse, Shadest, used to do that also. He would slurp his water too. Do your boys slurp?
ReplyDeleteI still imitate that sound when I am around drinking horses, and they usually stop what they are doing and look at me like I am crazy :)
